Budget Travel - PVG to DPS and DPS to HKG

I was looking for the a price on a route from Shanghai to Bali and then Bali to Hong Kong. It looks like the cheapest price I could find was to fly from HGH (hangzhou) to KUL then KUL to DPS. For the return it would be DPS to KUL and KUL to HKG. I found this on airasia but would probably require a stay over both times in KUL. The total cost was around $900.00. Does anyone know a better way from China to Bali. We are somewhat flexible in where we would be in China but do want to return to Hong Kong from Bali.

You haven't mentioned which dates you are flying, so it is difficult to provide specific advice, but $900 seems like far too much; some test dates in late August give about $540 total for the Airasia flights you mention, and two nights in KUL should be nowhere near $360. At least for the return flight, you might be able to avoid the KUL stopover by flying via SIN on Jetstar/Valuair. It may also be cheaper to fly to Shenzhen instead of Hong Kong, though this might not be possible for visa reasons.
