Thai Airways Royal Orchid Plus - OT: Hotel at BKK airport or go into town?

Greetings all.

I'm after comments on whether to overnight at the BKK Novotel or go into the city and stay at my usual (Holiday Inn Ploenchit).

Arriving BKK at 23:00 and departing next day at 16:00. Not really enough time to do anything in the city (and don't really want to), but is there anything to do at or near the BKK Novotel to fill the time in the morning and early afternoon before going departure?

Depends on what you want to do around the airport....??

But if you stay downtown, you'll be in HI by around 00:30. few nightcaps in/out and bed 0200. Up 0900, breakfast and pack. Checkout, but leave bags at reception. 1000-1300 shopping or whatever and return to HI. 1300 to airport and departure.

Or loaf at Novotel.....

personnally, I would go to a nice hotel in the city on the River with lovely swimming pool (Shangri la, Sheraton, etc...). No traffic at midnight, and little to get back for your plane at 2pm. The room will not be more expensive than the Novotel. Novotel has a small swiming pool, unattractive restaurants and an airport feel. But absolutely nothing around except the aurport. And you can get a nice rool overlooking the river for similar price, loaf around the pool, walk at a nearby restaurant, do some shopping as suggested by Thai-Kiwi.

Thanks TK and brunos. Seems you have both confirmed my thoughts about the run into town. The river view does sound like a nice way to wake up - certainly better than the HI consistently giving me a view of the next door car-park :(.
