So my #1 Club Gold e-mail newsletter today highlighted

"Special Airport Shuttle and Hourly Rates in New York. Make your next airport ride more comfortable and convenient in a Hertz rental and enjoy special airport shuttle rates from/to Newark, LaGuardia, JFK and Manhattan. Click here. (https://www.hertz.com/rentacar/specialoffers/index.jsp?targetPage=manhattan_airport_shuttle.jsp )

$23-27 for one-way rentals between Manhattan and EWR/JFK/LGA.

Of course, the fine print:
*Terms and Conditions for Rentals from Newark & LaGuardia to any Manhattan Location: This rate only applies when car is picked up between Thursday at 1pm through Friday at 12 noon and returned within 24 of pickup date and time.
**Terms and Conditions for Rentals from any Manhattan Location to Newark, LaGuardia & JFK: This rate only applies when car is picked up between Sunday at 2pm through Monday at 12 noon and returned within 24 of pickup date and time.

So you have less than a 24 hour window per week in which to pick up the car in either instance. What an effing joke. Like this is really going to be helpful to many people. Hertz, you should be ashamed of even offering this. :td:

I'm surprised at your reaction. Hertz (like Avis and National) is simply offering a deeply-discounted rate to move its cars where they are needed. Demand for rental cars in Manhattan is high on weekends; not as high during the week. Hertz' deal is actually a little better than the competition's: Avis and National only offer a discounted rate between Manhattan and EWR.

This is one of the rare opportunities offered to rent a car in Manhattan at a reasonable rate. And the rate occasionally sells out, so there obviously are people who find it an attractive offer.

I actually use this every week. I fly back on Thurs, pick up wife in Manhattan, live in Brooklyn, drive her to walk on Friday morning, return car, take subway home. Cheaper than taxi from LGA to brooklyn.

On Sunday's pick up car from Manhattan, drive to LGA on Monday morning. Again, I live in Brooklyn so it's cheaper than taxi and I get my 40 rental for PC for what it's worth.

Seawolf, Are you claiming Virgin Atlantic miles with your Hertz rentals? With the current promotion of 3,000 miles per Hertz rental (see related thread in this forum) until September 30, you could rack up VS miles in the remaining 10 weeks!

I think this is a great deal, the second lowest I could find was twice the cost. I'm finding that you sometimes have to book a week or more in advance since they sell out of the rate.

I'm not sure what you're so angry about. This rate was created to help Hertz shuttle cars between the airports and Manhattan and thus is never intended to be helpful to the majority of the car-renting public. I take advantage of this offer often as I live in the area and don't own a car.
