Starwood Preferred Guest - request Westin Guangzhou 8/31-9/11

Hello we will be staying with a group from 8/31/08- 9/11/08 and have the choice of booking ourselves or getting group rate. I have amex platinum and called in today for SPG Gold membership. I am looking for best rate and want to know if I should book room with or without breakfast and high speed internet. The internet access is very important to us, but I like dim sum, so breakfast isn't critical. Direct through westin price is $200 for free wifi and breakfast for 2. No breakfast and no wifi is $186 per night. There will 2 adults and crib child staying in room. Group has not yet provided the group rate and I don't know if my spg gold status applies when booking with a group. Amex platinum doesn't have any special deals that I saw, they said something about Ritz Carlton, but I have to stay here.

Well, the gold status wont give you much plus except 50% bonus starpoints and MAYBE a slightly (and VERY slightly) better room. The gold hasnt brought me any advantage so far. Maybe you contact the property if they have specials like free internet for Golds. Some do some dont...

Unfortunately it's not like Hilton where you can set up always to get Wireless for free. The Westin Bonaventure in LA gave it to me though.

For a 14$ difference incl Breakfast and Inet I would maybe go for the bit more expensive rate. Always nice to have a choice...

Did you check if "Cash and Points" is available ?

I am not organizer of the group, we'll be there adopting a child. We can book ourselves, but want to make sure we get the best deal. The condition is that we have to stay here, but we can book with group or on our own. We'll call the hotel and see if there are any benefits for being gold.

If you know someone in GuangZhou, it's much cheaper if they book it for you in the hotel itself. Their rate is a lot lower.
