Okay, I'm currently at Le Meridien in Shanghai and I've discovered my SPG account has expired because the last time I stayed at a *wood property was April 2006.

I spoke to the guy at the club lounge and he said that he'll enter my old SPG number and this should reactivate it.

Is this true?

I just tried to sign-up online for a new account but it won't let me as it detects a duplicate email address (duh ... ). There is an option to just continue and sign-up for an account ... but I'm thinking if the account can be reactivated, that might be much easier?

So ... I'm checking out in about 10 hours ... any tips on what I should do early tomorrow morning?

Thanks all!!!

Contact SPG Customer Service and they should be able to activate your account. However, you will all starpoints in that account since it became in active.

Gonna be tough for me to get in touch with SPG cust. svc from China .. If that's the case I may call next week once I get home and hope I can get retro-active credit for this stay.

You shouldn't have to do this. When your current hotel stay posts, it should re-activate your expired account. YMMV.
