Following link describes a new promo from Amex Gold that gives a $75 Food & Beverage credit to those staying 2 or more nights and paying with their AMEX Gold card. Evidently 500+ Westin, W, LeM and Sheraton properties worldwide are participating. Deal has to be booked via AMEX according to the press release. Have never booked anything through the Gold Card Destinations program so I am not sure how that works. Maybe someone else has some experiences.

Yep, however you must book through American Express, which is consider a third party? So I dont think this would qualify to retain gold or platinum if anyone was wondering. Lurker 1/2 can you verify? Thank You, but a good promotion. Keep them coming!

Am I correct in assuming that the SPG Amex card is not a Gold Amex card, so wouldn't qualify for this promotion?

American Express and Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. today announced a new hotel benefit for all consumer American Express Gold Card members in the United States that will provide a $75 food and beverage credit whenever Gold Card members book a stay of two or more consecutive nights at over 500 properties around the world across four prestigious Starwood brands
Looks like only consumer Gold Cards are eligible.

So, if amex is a third party that means no starpoints for the stay either, correct?

In this case, AMEX is using a GDS system like most travel agencies do, so as long as the rate is not pre-paid to AMEX, it would be considered to be eligible for Starpoints and stay credit.

Just tried it. For my requested stay I found the rates under the Amex system to be very different from those on offer on the Starwood site. Ended up reserving from the latter since the offers there were better - even taking the promotion into account!!

Gold card only, does plat count?
Can anyone else relate their experience-- are the rates booking through AmEx signficantly higher than than the rates listed on SPG.com? If so, then where's the benefit?

so you can choose between 2 extra spg points per dollar with spg amex, or $75 credit via amex gold. i would assume its also possible with amex plat and cent.
too bad you cant combine with FHR and pay with spg amex. :(
