View Full Version : T&C's question on an award stay

Just booked an award stay at the Calgary Westin for next year's (2009) Calgary stampede... although it will be 4 in the room of which 2 are kids.. it would not let me put 4 adults down (i was trying to force it to give me 2 beds) as it would just default back to 2 adults

anyway.. I decided to take what I could get and then try to figure it out after the fact. My first though would be to get a cot.. well I saw these in the T&C's

Rate Plan Description: Ex Person Charge: 30 Cad Pn Rollaway Adult Charge: Pnrollaway Chld Chrg: Pn Crib Charge: Pnonly To Be Booked W/spg Award Stay;

Specifically in bold above, what does this mean.. I see it could say 30 CAD (per night?) for any roll away or is it 30 (per night?) for just an extra adult on using the roll away?

Anyway to force this to give me 2 Doubles?

Would calling the hotel or the plat line be beneficial?

thanks

I would read this as:

Extra Person charge of CAD$30 (starting with the 3rd adult)
No Rollaway Adult charge
No Rollaway Child charge
No Crib charge
This rate can only be booked as an SPG award stay

Anyway to force this to give me 2 Doubles?

Seems like if there double beds available, the room description would say so. Otherwise, probably not. What date in 2009 is this exactly?

Would calling the hotel or the plat line be beneficial?

thanks

I would call Platinum Concierge. If you call the hotel and ask to make a reservation, they are probably going to transfer you to the Customer Contact Center anyway, especially at this hour. ;)

It would be July 4-11 2009

I like your interpretation better.. i'll just call the plat line when I get to work today

I checked and I think my interpretation actually holds water. ;)

But, there is only one room type that will allow 4 people in the room and that is a Westin business room, running at CAD$549 per night at the moment.

You can also get this room type as a Specialty Select award room for 11,500 Starpoints per night. Might be a good redemption value considering the paid rate.

just got off the plat line

they put a note in for two doubles and pretty much stated what you just stated above.

I think I"ll roll the dice and even if I get a king, I'll just get a roll away..

thanks William

TrojanHorse,

Trust me, you do not want to spend a week in a standard room at the Westin Calgary with 4 people. The rooms are nice and freshly redone but fairly small. You will have zero space left after adding a roll away to a standard King room.

Further, during Stampede the hotel will be a guaranteed sell out. The suites will be gone as they will be booked for the Stampede talent and chances of an upgrade will be very slim. The business room while not overly large would be very comfortable with 2 beds or a roll away for a one week stay.

Trust a Calgarian on this!

Yay ! Calgary !

Coming back for the weekend... staying at the Eau Claire..

Question - last week I booked Points+cash. But SPG only credited the 500 Plat points and not the cash paid... is that correct?

Am thinking of coming back for Stampede next year too.

Yee-Ha!:D

Hi, there is a lot of info about this in the FAQ (beat you to it Cheap Elite :p ).
You don't get points for the cash portion but do get points for incidentals (it is treated as a reward stay). If you do get points for the cash portion of C&P it is a lucky error.

That's the spirit! You'll have to post a trip report in the master thread for us.

TrojanHorse, I should have mentioned, if you get a chance to snag the Sheraton Suites you will be even more comfortable. I'm not sure what their C & P availability will be like but it's worth keeping an eye open for that property. If you don't get it though you should still enjoy the Westin.

thanks for the input Dan

I anticipate a sold out property hence I began the booking process now for 2009. My kids are small so if we have too we will make do as I don't foresee a ton of time in the room. Plus my roomate from undergrad is from and still lives in SW. I would imagine I'd spend quite a bit of time at his place as well.

Regarding the business room, when I called the plat line, they stated that for 11,500 I could get the biz room and she said it would be a 275 sf room. I said that is the same as what I have reserved now (275 sf.. says so right on my rez) so I said I don't see what the difference is. She couldn't present a reason either. After that, I decided that since I can get a roll away, Im going to roll the dice on an u/g or in a worst case, to get the room I booked which should be the same size as the biz class room.

Sheraton Suites was my first choice but it was also 60% more in cost (points) at 16K per night. I will keep an eye out for C&P though.. good suggestion

one other question..

I've been to the stampede twice although the last time was over 10 years ago. How far is the Westin and SS from where the stampede is actually located. I realize downtown pretty much shuts down during Stampede and there is a ton to do there but how far is it to the park.

Both hotels are a short walk from each other (about a block and a half). The Stampede grounds are just on the beltline of downtown. A cab ride in good traffic would be 5 to 10 minutes, in bad traffic not more than 15 to 20. You are also about 4 blocks from the C-train which would involve 6 stops before putting you right at Stampede Park entrance.

Both hotels are ideal for spending time at Eau Claire and Prince's Island Park which are great family spots.

If you haven't been to Calgary in 10 years you will be amazed at the growth explosion (apparently there is money in oil)!

thanks for the input... the C Train will be our basic mode of transportation i'm guessing

yeah, I would think Calgary is booming with a little help from the oil industry
