JetBlue TrueBlue - Jetblue expanding CUN Service

Jetblue has requested an exemption(a formality) from the DOT to begin service CUN-TPA and CUN-IAD to begin this winter.
TPA will go daily on the 190 and IAD to go (surprise, surprise) Saturday-only on the 320.
IAD-CUN will probably conincide with new service to SJU(Saturdays only) which begins Dec. 20th.
Still not sure about the Saturday-only thing but Jetblue seems to be sure about it. Good place to put those 320's which are experiencing day of week cancellations? Rather than have them sit at IAD for a full day, send them to the islands?
TPA daily on the 190 is a surprise. Best of luck!

Does seem like a bit of a suprise considering the proximity to MCO and that station already having a route to CUN.

Could you please tell me how is MCO-CUN doing? I'm sure they are quite doing very well. Maybe if B6 will increased the frequency from MCO-CUN instead of daily flight. I'm sure the loads will be very successfully routes from MCO-CUN.
As you know what happening from last previously announced both NK/FL. They had never started for TPA-CUN from few years ago. That's why both FL & NK has already filing the DOT authority for TPA-CUN. It didn't started due to Hurricanes in CUN. Hopefully if NK or FL will eventually try to do another reapplies for TPA-CUN.

Regardless of what was done in the past with other airline's filings, I would have thought that (IMHO) it would be better add a second MCO rather than add TPA. Then again, maybe they know something I don't. I guess they are banking on simular success of the NYC stations to Florida.

Well, while I could understand adding an additional flight to stations that are preforming well already, it was noted that TPA is not too far from MCO, but flying CUN-TPA would also expand the area and serves a bigger population rather than just adding a second flight to MCO.
Secondly, would CUN be another destination possibility from AUS? I would think so being that AUS connects the west coast, Florida and the north east. Just a thought, I know they are adding quite a bit of service as it is, I guess we'll see what happens!

It's safe to assume that now more than ever any new additions to a network will be only the most sure-footed ones based on an airline's research. The fact they have chosen TPA over another MCO departure has to mean that they are very sure of its success. After all, the safe route, we all agree, would have been adding a freq to MCO and you have to make a pretty strong argument to argue with safe right now.
AUS would be a great conx. spot for CUN for states in the Midwest. The other airports served by AUS already have convenient service on B6 in the case of MCO, JFK, BOS or typically travel to Baja instead from LA, SF. Not sure about O&D for AUS-CUN(no airline has service currently) but if AUS keeps building up as you mentioned w/ directs to cities in the East and ORD, Jetblue should be the first to offer AUS-CUN.

Here the docket from DOT regulations came in today for TPA-CUN & IAD-CUN, too.

Wow those are LOW fares... play around on vivaaerobus.com and you will see a lot of flights where the taxes are more than flight itself (even including $10 each way baggage charge of 25kg maximum).
B6 may not want to pick a fight in this market.. until the TrueBlue member base is well established!
Also, is there a local Mexican (especially those from Yucatan peninsula) population in Tampa? I know the MIA/FLL catchment has the largest Mexican (both immigrants and citizens) population who were born or have roots in the Yucatan area.

I think you are going to see connections built into the TPA flight. I just worked MCO-IAD and 60% of the aircraft connected in from CUN. MCO-CUN is doing very well andI again think that is because of connections. If we get upstate New York cities flying to TPA that will drive the flight as it will give customers another option besides connecting in JFK as that is what is helping the MCO-CUN flight, the fact that you don't need to connect in JFK if yor city has a flight to/from MCO.
JetBlue issued a press release (http://investor.jetblue.com/phoenix.zhtml?c=131045&p=irol-newsArticle&ID=1187333&highlight=) about this expanded service today.
Nothing particularly surprising, though I don't know if the times for the flights have been available before:

With the departure from TPA so early that is going to preclude most connecting traffic. Interesting choice of timing.
And the route launch pricing was announced:
Fares between Tampa and Cancun start at just US$99 (a) each way while fares between Washington and Cancun start at US$199 (a) each way.
Enjoy.

Is that operate of E90 from TPA-CUN, am I correct? I'm sure the loads will be very successful first-ever nonstop from TPA-CUN but, it was another airlines with FL & NK hasn't never started service from TPA-CUN by few years ago due to Hurricanes. Hopefully if both NK & FL will ever reapplies again for TPA-CUN in near the future.
