hello there!

I am seeking some assistance/advice in finding the best/cheapest air fare.

I live in Los Angeles so I'd want to travel from LAX and arrive in Killamanjaro (JRO) Tanzania.

Most are LAX-DET-AMS-JRO

I just need to arrive @ JRO on Aug 25th and leave JRO on Sep. 14th.

I'd prefer to arrive @ my connection AMS a day prior if possible.

I've searched hours on end and still can't find flights that work with price.

Does anyone know of which would be cheapest?

Thank you in advance.

Should i purchase people's flyer miles?

book flights separately?

EDIT:

sorry!! i just read the sticky!

don't delete. i didn't mean to break any rules.

any suggestions? methods for cheapest flight?

i just feel helpless it seems that prices keep increasing the more i search....

i dont know what to do.....

When I was looking into tickets a few years ago, a friend sent me this site:

http://cheapafricatickets.com/

I did not, however, purchase anything from them, so I can't vouch for them. If you do book, make sure to use a credit card with good fraud protection (e.g., Amex), and call the airline directly to make sure the ticket got booked. Good luck!

Chances are that your ticket will be a lot cheaper if you don't insist on a stopover in AMS. Make sure you leave AMS less than 24 hours after you arrive, then it will count as a connection rather than as a stopover, which can mean cheaper tickets.

Whatever you do, don't buy miles from other people. This is against the rules of every mileage program under the sun and can lead to your ticket and the seller's account being cancelled if the airline finds out.

Welcome to FlyerTalk concretebru !

While we have the stickly, we've informally relaxed the rules a bit, so we won't delete your post.

As for getting help, that's a very tall order, with specific dates and routes.

And with oil still going up, that would account for why prices seem to be going up.

You didn't tell us what price you found. Most FTers tend to want to see how much effort you put into your search and what you found before they try to see if they can do better.

i called nwa on monday.

the person helping me found a flight for 1798 and then we got disconnected.

i called back twice and the cheapest was around 2300.

now that i'm searching prices have gone up to 2700.

the reason i want to make a short stop is because my friend coming from japan is meeting with me in ams and then hopefully we're flying together to africa.

her flight arrives in AMS @ 420 pm and is schedueld to leave @ 1020 am the next day to JRO.

i also found someone on craigslist who said that once i found a ticket to book from (like travelocity), they would do it for 20% off??

i checked cheapafricatickets... that's where i got the 2700...

what about transferring miles?

what about transferring miles?

Transferring miles is certainly an option, but before you go down that path, it makes sense to call the airlines and check on award availability. My guess is that award tickets are going to be difficult (if not impossible) to find.

In terms of paid tickets, it's going to come down to convenience vs. price. If you are looking for the cheapest option, try breaking your flight up. E.g. JFK-JRO on your dates is $1800, and you can get a LAX-JFK for a few hundred. Alternatively, you can do LAX-NBO for $1800, and NBO-JRO for around $350.

These options will add several connections to your journey, but will offer you a cheaper price. All of these prices are based on a simple kayak search - you might be able to find better options in a more thorough search or by altering your dates.
