This will be my first time to alaska (going at end of July). I am a little worried about the mosquitoes. I will be flying in from BC and probably wont be able to bring bug spray. Does anyone know a place in Anchorage where you can get bug spray or Off cheap? Somewhere that the locals know? Trying to do this on a budget.

Pretty much anywhere from the grocery stores (Carrs or Fred Meyer) and Wal-Mart to the sportsmen's stores like Sportsman's Warehouse (where I got a super-strong 98.5% DEET spray--one whiff of that and the mosquitos won't touch you!

How are the buggers in late August? I assume there would be less of them by then.

We were there in July and I'm one that usually gets bitten. I brought my spray but did not use it. None of us ever got bitten. We did the cruise and everything we embarked, we did not get bitten.
