China - Star Alliance China Airpass?

It seems like the Star Alliance has a new internal China airpass available for those flying into China on a Star Alliance carrier. The problem is that details seem hard to come by (there's a calculator function at staralliance.com if you put together an itinerary -- somebody then apparently calls you back with pricing!)

Before I go to the trouble, can anyone tell me whether the pricing is worthwhile? What kind of discount off full fare are they offering? Am I better off just buying the tickets from ctrip -- or can I get a better discount with this airpass (or more flexibility)?
