Travel Technology - Help! Problem viewing photos that were put on USB Flash drive

I've got a Mac notebook in the US and put a load of photos on a USB flash drive to take with me to the UK. I connected the flash drive to a Windows XP machine and I can't view them...almost

When I go into the folder the little previews show up no problem but the in folder slide show (under 'Picture Tasks') loads up and says 'Drawing Failed'

I've tried opening the files using Windows Picture and Fax Viewer and it says 'Drawing Failed'. (I suspect this is the same app for the slideshow) I tried opening with Paint and it said, 'Paint Cannot Read This File. This is not a valid bitmap file, or its format is not currently supported'. It's a JPEG and the file extension is .JPG!

Bizzarely I can open the files in Internet Explorer but it's not good for flicking through them in a slideshow like manner.

If anyone can shed light on why this is behaving oddly, or how I can fix and view them in a slideshow I'd be most grateful!

Thanks in advance :)

Try copying them to a folder on the local hard drive and see if that helps. That you can open them up via IE means that the files aren't corrupt. Maybe the system is having trouble putting the thumbs.db file on the disk for some reason and that is causing the troubles. Is the memory stick read-only for some reason?

Try viewing them in something like Google Picasa.

Sounds like they were written in a jpeg style Windows doesn't like, or that your imaging subsystem in Windows is borked.

I tried that before (though forgot to mention it) and it didn't work.

Scott, thanks for the Picasa suggestion, works a treat and can view pictures in slideshow format :)^

Thanks for the Picasa idea - good to know if I ever get in trouble with my pictures. :)
