Hi, I'm new to Flyertalk and I am not sure if this is the right place to post this but I'll try here. I am going to Ottawa from Toronto on the 22 of August to 24 and I am looking for really cheap fares. The farthest I am willing to go to catch this flight is YKF (Kitchener) or YHM (Hamilton). The cheapest I have found is $227.15 with Air Canada from YYZ and Porter Airlines $237.65 from YTZ. If one could help me find a cheap fare in Y class it would be appreciated.

Thanks C-FMWQ :)

Welcome to FT! What you have found seems pretty good under present conditions.

PS. I agree with the comment below that this trip is too short to fly; I'd have taken the train. But recently I made similar comment to someone who wanted to fly 185 miles SIN-KUL and it turned out he wanted to fly anyway. So I assume people have considered such obvious issues and have their reasons for asking the question anyway.

Ottawa and Toronto are only ~220 miles apart, flying between them if you care about your budget at all is absurd (particularly given how long dealing with checkin/security and getting out to the more distant airports you mention would take). Via Rail would take 4.5 hours each way and cost $123 (CAD, roundtrip) for the dates you give, as well as being a lot more comfortable than any cheap flight. A greyhound bus would be slightly slower (~5 hours) and less comfortable, but only $83 roundtrip. Flights on a route that short will almost never be a competitive "budget" option.

Welcome to FlyerTalk C-FMWQ !

I'd say I have to agree with the above advice. Unless you have a really compelling reason to fly, it's just not worth it to put up with check/insecurity ;)

I fly every week and my time constraints don't allow me the luxury of avoiding these flights (IAH-SAT is about the same distance for instance), but sometimes the pain of parking, taking a shuttle to the airport, checking baggage (my work requires I carry tools), going through security and then picking up a rental car

OTOH, get to stop at the President's Club and I need the miles @:-)

Yah, the train would be an option but the times just don't work for me as the train on Sunday night would leave at 4:00 and I have to leave later than 7:00 so the train would be nice but it doesn't fit the schedule. I also have to be at work the next morning so it would be nice to be in bed by midnight. The bus would take 5 hours+ which is tiring, and my travel companion doesn't want to take the Greyhound. Driving with the gas price and 5 hours is just tiring to do. For the flight out we are willing to go on the 21 evening if not the 22 morning and have to be there at before 9:00am. The prices don't have to be that cheap but I was trying to see if there are flights that are cheaper than what is there. Oh I'm an airplane nerd so I like to fly to the other ways of traveling :D. Again I would love to take other options but for the reasons above we have to fly, and I am just looking for an airfare something cheaper than what is there. The airfare that I first posted is per person.

Thanks C-FMWQ :)
