From some official CA tourism site, just in case you or someone you know feels compelled to go.

Thanks for the link. In fact, there are some pretty reasonable places listed that are not what I would call your typical tourist traps - San Diego Zoo and San Diego Wild Animal Park as a couple of examples, or even our own Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, which many locals visit throughout the year.

Not mentioned on that site that I could see is that for San Diego, they have an offer for a pass for unlimited admission to Sea World, Zoo and Wild Animal Park for 5 days I believe. Animal Park is a 1 day thing but you could easily do 2 trips to the zoo to get to everything. Also a 5 day pass for Disneyland, Disney’s California Adventure, Universal Studios Hollywood, SeaWorld and the San Diego Zoo or the San Diego Zoo’s Wild Animal Park.

You can actually also often get passes to major theme parks (including the zoo and wild animal park) at Costco on discount.
