Hertz - Prestige Rental / Gold Service & Additional Driver

We have a three week rental in SFO in August (Prestige Car, Escalade).
The rate we booked includes the fees for an additional driver.
As I am also a Gold Service member I usually do not have to stop at the counter.
How does this work concerning the additional driver?
Is this already in the contract (although they cannot know who the other driver is) or do we have to stop at the counter and stand in line to get the additional driver in the contract (which would make the Gold Service worthless)?
If the other driver is a spouse / domestic partner, or work at the same company (when using a company CDP), then they are automatically an additional driver and you don't have to do anything.
Authorized Operators are:
- The employer, employee or fellow employee of renter on company business, (when booking includes company Corporate Discount Number).
- The renter's spouse for rentals that originate in California, Nevada or New York.
- The spouse (including partners in Vermont Civil Unions) or domestic partner of Hertz Number One Club, Number One Club Gold or Platinum members.
- Authorized Operators do not have to be present at time of rental.
- There are no fees for Authorized Operators.

On the 2nd one, I notice you say a spouse is allowed to drive for rentals in CA, NV and NY - is this a state law and is it true about all rentals? That is good to know for people coming to Vegas, #1 Gold or not.

That quote was actually from another FT posting a while ago. I looked it up in the FAQ on the Hertz site and it now says this:
Question
How would I add an additional driver if I am a Gold Member?
Answer
If the person to be added on is your spouse, domestic prnter or coworker, they are considered authorized operators and can operate the Hertz car without being added on. However, if they are not your spouse, domestic partner or coworker, you and the additional driver will need to go to any Hertz location to sign an Additional Authorized Operator (AAO) form to legally operate the Car.

Can my wife rent a vehicle reserved (Gold, PC) in my name if I am not present?

No. The booth checkers check your DL# and name against the rental slip. That will not work. However, she can turn it in no problems.
