SAA/ Delta advertise a "new" configuration for the SAA 747-400 fleet used on the JFK/ATL - JNB/CPT route. SAA will not tell me what plane they will be using till the day before departure.. Any idea where I can find out what plane will be used??

A little late in responding to your message, but perhaps it will help someone else.
I was told last week that the only reliable route for the new F Class suites is the first flight each way from JNB-LHR-JNB. There is another plane (maybe 2?) that I was told by the purser is operating *sometimes* on one of the flights to ATL.
The seat map will show only 3 seats in row 1 if it's the new configuration. Go to itn and punch in a JNB-LHR flight (the first one) and then check the seating map. Unless there's been a change in equipment, this should show the new configuration in F.

Thanks, flew that flight last week, my last on SAA....even with the new configuration, (half the seats were broken already) the cutbacks in service make it worth while to fly via London on BA... in CPT now... I've given up on SA.... will be flying BA from now on....

That is quite distressing to hear. To what level were the "breakdowns" in the new suites? Were people obviously p*ssed off? What sort of compensation was SA talking about giving them (if any)?
You echo so many comments of my So. Africa-based colleagues. Seems like anyone who does a fair bit of traveling (long-haul) in and out of So. Africa prefers BA (especially for their Business and First Class products).
