SAA is refurbishing their entire fleet to the new "millenium standard" starting with the 747-400's. at this point they are maximising the new equipment on the LHR market, so you will only see the "swissair" seats here now and again.
On their old(er) equipment they have 2 kinds of seats :
- The coffin style (the aircraft bought from Phillipine Airlines) 12 seast in first..these lie totally flat.
- The regular old first class 9 your worst case scenario Lots of space, but hte seats do NOT lie flat and they are old and they show it.
The kicker is they advertise the new service extensively -- and deliver it sporadically.
Send an e-mail to tammycamacho@flysaa.com and copy Andre@flysaa.com ...(executive offices) if enough people send an e-mail they probably will fly the equipment and give the service they advertise.
