Will be flying alone on CX 872 on July 11th. Wondering about the best seats in business and when to check in (i.e. online or in person at the airport)

Are the u/d seats longer and pointed more forwards?

Also, which lounge is better? the Wing or the Pier?

CX often changes equipment. It happened to me twice in a row on my SFO flights. It can be a 744, 74A, or a 74J. At the moment, CX872 is on a 74A on 11 July. I have only been on a 74A once. I was downstairs then. Any window seat is good downstairs. I have not been on the upper deck yet. Judging from the floor plan, all seats are about the same and 88A/K should be a little better. I doubt whether the u/d seats are longer, but there should be more aisle space.

If you like views and open space, try the Wing. If you like a cool and private environment, try the Pier. If you are neutral, go to the one closest to your departure gate.

I prefer the column D and K better, you will have more room for your right elbow when having meal(especially when cutting steak), and for writing.

row 88A/K and row 87 A/K are not that good if you plan on skipping meal and sleep thru, because FAs like to stop/setup trolly at the emergency exit space next to those seat, and may bump on your cubicle wall.

The upper deck still feels more private with 1-1. What I find interesting is that the formerly coveted u/d seats just before the emergency exit are now just like all the others as herringbones. And I've seen them empty.

Wing vs. Pier at HKIA -- whichever is closer to your gate.

I do that run regularly too. I agree with all above. I still like 81A as few staff interruptions, no loo noise and the big bin next to the seat which you can get to without disturbing others.
But...seats are still too narrow.
