Cathay Pacific Asia Miles - Any chance of getting on an earlier flight?

I've flown CX before but I've never tried to get on an earlier flight. Next week I'm flying KIX-HKG-LHR and on the 23/24 I'm flying AMS-HKG-(TPE)-KIX. The flight from AMS gets in at 7:35, the flight to TPE//KIX leaves at 13:10 (the only reason I booked it is because CX didn't have M availability on the non-stop).

Would it be likely that CX would let me standby for the non-stop at 10:05? Where should I try and do so (counter in AMS, transit in HKG or at the gate)? I'm aware that I shouldn't check luggage if I want to do this, but I prefer to (and any advice would generally be appreciated) (also, I'm just an AM member, not a MPC member).

I did that very often on short haul and regional flights. Most likely your ticket allows that. It is still transit and does not involve rerouting. You should be able to stand by for an earlier flight.

You can do that at the AMS check-in or at the HKG transit desk (sometimes there can be a long line). I am not sure if you can do that at the gate in HKG.
