Hertz - Online checkin meaningful if already gold?

I see that Hertz has started an "online checkin" system which allows pick up of the contract at a kiosk.

They guarantee 10 minutes else you get $50 off the rental.

I am already Gold and I don't see what this gets me. All I do is go to the name board and find where my car is located.

Have I missed something?

I think this would mostly apply to locations without gold canopy service, where you must still go to the gold desk to get the contract/keys. Most locations are not gold canopy.

Just signed up for Gold#1 but says my first rental I have to go to the Gold counter. I have a reservation I made before signing up for Gold#1. I assume if I call they will add the reservation to my Gold#1 status. But is it faster at the Gold counter or should I just do the kiosk/online check in? Will be renting at BOS 4pm on Friday

Do it at the Gold Counter, doesn't take you very long -- they take your drivers license to verify it once and they take your signature to put on file for future rentals. That is it after that. On your second rental and thereafter, just go to the gold board and look for your name to find your car.

They should extend the $50 offer to gold members too. At certain Gold canopy locations, you still have to wait more than 10 min because your name is not on the board.

Just found the Hertz commercial (http://carrentalsavers.ning.com/video/video/show?id=2262900%3AVideo%3A118)for Online-Check in. Looks interesting, especially if you are not gold. Do you think they copied it from Alamo by chance?

The only time that's ever happened to me was because the credit card on file had expired.
