My family (wife, two kids 2 and 3 1/2) are off to Carlsbad for 5 days for Legoland and the beach. Any suggestions on some casual beach restaurants that the kids could run on the beach and we can sit and relax with a coctail and watch the sunset?
Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!

Here's a great website (http://www.sandiego.com/san-diego-booze-ban/) for you. I thought that the newly enacted ban on drinking on the beach applied to all San Diego beaches. It doesn't. In the course of clarifying where you can and where you cannot, it also gives a list of bars (their word, actually it appears to be places to eat that serve alcohol) on the beach.

Charlies (http://www.sandiegomagazine.com/media/San-Diego-Magazine/Dining/Restaurant-Listings/index.php?tableid=2&cp=7&si=120&view=details&itm=91) in Cardiff has an outside area for casual food and drinks. The adjacent restaurants, Beach House and Chart House, have spectacular views, but nowhere to keep a parental eye on small children playing on the sand.
