I know a bit about Milan as I went to look at it whilst in town a couple of weeks ago. There's definitely something happening but at a slow pace. The Intercontinental website now states 2011 opening

I know! My fiancé's family is in Auckland, probably not too far from this hotel. I was just there for two months recently, I would've preferred to stay there. Hopefully it'll be open for booking by the next time we'll be visiting.

The article said that it's been closed since 2006. Tradewinds will be looking for a different partner once the economy has improved. The article didn't imply much hope for immediate progress, though.

Just to follow on about Adelaide:
There was a story in the local paper on the weekend saying that ICH were 'taking over management' of what is currently the Hyatt. From memory the time-scale was sometime early next year.

Given the Hyatt is a (supposed) 5-star and attached to the Casino one would assume it'd probably become an IC.

But yeah, there'll stillbe a gap between HI going and CP (and new maybe IC) opening.

Having said that, it is a story from the Advertiser so theres a good chance its wrong given their terrible journalistic standards.

There was a story in the local paper on the weekend saying that ICH were 'taking over management' of what is currently the Hyatt. From memory the time-scale was sometime early next year.

Intercontinental Adelaide is now listed on the Intercontinental world locations map ( http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/intercontinental/en/gb/locations ), with a 2009 opening date.

Also, from the news reports, some others:

The four hotels in the agreement comprise:

InterContinental Adelaide – conversion from the Hyatt Adelaide. This 367-room property is ideally located in the Adelaide Central Business District. It is adjacent to the Adelaide Convention Centre, the Adelaide Casino and the Adelaide Festival Centre. Refurbishment works are planned for the property.

ANA Crowne Plaza Kobe – currently a franchised Crowne Plaza hotel, the 592-room property will join IHG’s Japan managed hotel portfolio.

Crowne Plaza Kunming City Centre – conversion from the current Banks Hotel. The 285-room property is only 15 minutes away from the Kunming Airport and enjoys a city-centre location. An extensive scope of works is planned for the property.

Holiday Inn Kunming City Centre – conversion from the current Sakura Kunming Hotel. This property has 235 rooms and will undergo major works prior to branding as a Holiday Inn. The hotel is located in the city’s financial and commercial district.

Judging from the name, it was Holiday Inn Sakura Kunming in the 1990's. They left the system by late 1998 or early 2000. So it made its way back to Holiday Inn again. I remember since they left the Holiday Inn system their rate declined at least 40% since domestic travellers do not want to pay higher rate for a domestic hotel.

The Leicester one seems to have died on its posterior - there's no information about it anywhere I can find, which is a shame as the location whilst not perfect (not the most enticing stretches of road) is very close to the centre...

The later posts refer to the older master list. A couple of links that may be of interest - the first was released when Liverpool opened, and the second shows a lesser number of hotels currently on the staybridge.co.uk website:

http://www.businesstraveller.com/news/staybridge-opens-in-liverpool
http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/sb/925/en/c/1/content/dec/sb/925/en/locations.html

The total EMEA pipeline for Staybridge properties quoted in IHG's interim results at 30 Jun was 7 (which matches the map), so it does look like all other properties (Glasgow and Edinburgh included) are on hold.

Shame about the scottish properties, I stay in Glasgow and Edinburgh quite a lot and they would have been a useful addition to my options!

Have stayed in the Liverpool Staybridge several times and apart from the constantly "out of action" coffee machine, it has been a quite pleasant experience. The only other issue being their bizzarre car park policy.

The CP Toronto Don Valley has left the IHG fold. It has reopened as an independent hotel called the Toronto Don Valley Hotel and Suites. I noticed the changeover on the Travelzoo website:

(see website: https://gc.synxis.com/rez.aspx?Hotel=25201&Chain=9895&promo=TZO)

This must have happened in the last few weeks as I drove by the property on a recent visit to Toronto and it still had the CP Flag.

The Costa Mesa-Orange County Airport Holiday Inn at 3131 Bristol St., Costa Mesa, CA seems to have left the ICH family. It is now The Hotel Hanford. The website is http://www.thehotelhanford.com/

My last stay there was back in August and I can't say it was that nice a hotel as a HI. Haven't seen what it is like now. I was looking to make new reservations in the area and noticed it was missing. Searched for a hotel at that address and found the new branding.

The Holiday Inn, Colombo, is now a Ramada property.

I noticed this when I was shopping for an overnight place to stay in Colombo next month while wife and I wait for a train to the tea or hill country part of Sri Lanka.

I stayed there twice before. It wasn't bad in the sense that I liked the staff and the restaurant a lot. However, the rooms were (six months ago), not up to what I would consider to be IHG's standards at any level. Probably hits the Ramada sweet spot :)

I put it to the wife: $63 for the newly-branded Ramada or $88 for the Hilton?

She said "Hilton"

Having seen how nice the Colombo Hilton is, I would have booked it regardless :)

Being dropped by IHG is not necessarily a bad thing. One year ago, we stayed at the Kunching Crown Plaza (Malaysia) one month after it was no longer a Crown Plaza, and we had a great stay at a bargain rate. In this case, the Kunching Hilton, was NOT worth the much higher price.

A colleague of mine chatted with IHG on the phone about this a few days ago ... the HI will cease to operate under the IHG umbrella in January.
However, my friend was informed that IHG is in the market and looking for something in the future (didn't specify a timeframe or location).

Mods, please feel free to move this thread to the Master List of New Hotels; I thought it was appropriate to open a new thread for the discussion of particular hotels. ;)

I'm currently planning the year 2010 and would appreciate any information on new hotels that are supposed to be open by now or open shortly. I could neither find any information on the IC homepage and nor did google give satisfying results, and the information in the master thread is mostly outdated by now. All input appreciated, thank you!

IC Porto: Supposed to open Q1 2010?
IC Danang, Vietnam: No info, google brings up news from 2007 (tbo by 2009)
IC Bali Sanur: Same as above (tbo by 2009)
IC Phi Phi: Same as above (tbo by 2009)
IC Macau: Tbo 2007, anyone been there recently, the building should certainly be finished by now??
IC Vale do Lobo, Portugal: 0 google hits... Is this a conversion of www.valedolobo.com? Any news about it?
IC One Thousand Island Lake Resort, China: tbo by 2009...

Thank you!!

It says it is under CHINA. whether it is PRC or ROC. Not our business nor IHG's business. It is CHINA. You can catagory by yourself to put the name under People's Republic of China or Republic of China (aka TAIWAN). Personally I think it is very clever of IHG to do this. If I remember correctly, in many IHG published documents, Indian subconti is always under Southeast Asia marketing umbrella.

I wonder if IHG put its India develope office in Singapore. IHG divide whole Asia Pacific into three markets:

1.Australiasia and Pacific
2.East Asia
3.Southeast Asia and Indian SubConti

In Australiasia and Pacific it is divided into Australia, New Zealand and Pacific sub region.

In East Asia there is Pan China sub-region (mainland China, Hong Kong & Macau, Taiwan), and Korea & Japan sub-region

In Southeast Asia there is Southeast Asia and Indian SubConti sub-regions.

It is very unfortunate that the person who put the list up did not put it in the way consumers are familiar with. I guess the original list was for its own marketing people.

In 5 years, Crowne Plaza Hanoi will be in the middle of the new downtown core. However, the place is currently barren. I've been to the hotel site several times in the last few months so trust me when I say that the hotel is literally in the middle of nowhere.

Interestingly, the new Intercontinental Keungnam Hanoi (not yet completed) is very close to the Crowne Plaza, but in a slightly better location as it is directly across from the National Conference Centre.

A new London Hotel Indigo (opening 8 July 2010) has appeared on the IHG website. Based on the address and speed of opening, I believe this is in addition to the three previously announced properties, but please correct me if I'm wrong.

It seems like IHG is taking over part of HNA Hotel portfolio. There are a couple of nice additions:

The five signed hotels are:
• InterContinental Haikou: 200 rooms opening in first quarter, 2014
• InterContinental Changchun: 300 rooms opening in fourth quarter, 2015
• Crowne Plaza Changchun Noble: 290 rooms opening in fourth quarter, 2012
• Crowne Plaza Kunming West: 300 rooms opening in first quarter, 2014
• Holiday Inn Beijing Sifang: 217 rooms opening in first quarter, 2012

See: http://hma.hotelworldasia.com/content/ihg-signs-five-hotel-management-deals-chinese-travel-company

Note: HNA Hotels belong to Hainan Airlines ("Holdings"). There are great hotels (Haikou city center) and abysmal holes such as the Haikou Airport Hotel.

I was chatting with the Guest Relations Manager of IC Hanoi a couple of days ago and she told me the Crowne Plaza West Hanoi will probably open in December (owner is pushing for October opening but not likely to happen). Her husband will be working in the CP.

Bad news, that's about 20% of the IHG in Italy. Two years ago we stayed at the HI Modena, HI Trieste Duino and HIX Milan San Siro, among some others, during our summer holidays. Even though both HIs were in dire need of refurbishment, they were the only IHG hotels in the area.

If the owners of the hotels do not want to put money into refurbishment programmes, IHG will dump them in the re-branding process.

On one hand there will be less IHG hotels in Italy, on the other hand a lot of HI are out of date properties, can't blame on IHG trying to maintaining standard and quality. I remember few months ago, we were discussing here at FT whether IHG would let a lot of old HI/HIX hotels remain in the family at later stages of re-branding. It clearly shows that this round IHG takes standard seriously.

The Ohana Waikiki Beachcomber is being rebranded as the Holiday Inn Waikiki Beachcomber Resort in November 2010.

It's not been officially announced, but I'm told by multiple staff members that the Holiday Inn Huntsville West (Madison, Alabama) will not remain as an IHG property after their agreement expires. They say to maintain a specific brand image, IHG will expect all HI's to have a minimum number of floors (I think it's four floors; but this property only has two). HSV West also has a building addition where the rooms are accessed from an exterior corridor, which doesn't fit with the HI brand image plan. As bad as any of that sounds, the hotel is isn't a bad place to stay. I've spent over 100 nights there from Jan through Sept 2010 and have no complaints.

There are two other HI's in Huntsville, but this one has the nicest rooms (great beds/bedding, 42" flat screens), and IMO the best dining experiences (breakfast and dinner) in the area. Allegedly IHG is planning to build a HIX across the street.

I'm not sure that it would be 4. I think it more likely has to do with eliminiating HIs that have exterior corridors, don't have elevators, etc.

I know of at least one three-story Holiday Inn (Orange County Airport North, on Grand Ave in Santa Ana CA) which has already been redone with the new signage, etc. But it has all interior corridors, and mulitiple elevators, all one building, and feels like a modern HI, just a "flatter" one. :)

Meanwhile, there's another HI (Anaheim CA "1 block Disneyland" which has all interior corridors, and multiple elevators, in several buildings, and multiple buildings, but also has a two-story building which looks like a nice house which has large suites, but no elevators. It had a major renovation about a year ago, and also has the new signage etc. Would IHG really force this hotel to drop out because of that one shorter building, or force it to get rid of that building? (Again, this one shorter building looks nothing like a motel, it looks like a two-story resort lodge or something.)

The HI Huntsville West (Madison, AL) has had the new brand signage for over a year. It has an elevator. It has interior corridors for 80% of the hotel, but at some point in its history someone decided to put an addition on the back with exterior corridors. It's a 30-40 year old hotel and I'm told it was an independently operated hotel before joining IHG.

Regarding the number of floors, the staff is being told that is one of the reasons it will no longer be a HI in the future. The other two HI's in Huntsville are both 4 floors, so that might be why the number is getting tossed around in conversation.

Read today in the news that HI Tbilisi Georgia is open. I have tried to find on IHG website, but the problem is that the country of Georgia is not yet on the list! It is possible to find it by using the airport code of TBS. It is officially bookable from Dec. 15, although the rates start at almost 200USD with VAT included for standard room. No official rewards rates so far, but I bet we will soon see it on PB list.

Capitalizing on the growing business and leisure markets across the country, IHG’s has 13 hotels in the pipeline including construction in St Petersburg, Samara, Rostov and Novosibirsk. In addition, IHG and Crocus Group have recently signed a deal to build the world's biggest Holiday Inn hotel in Moscow, a 1,000-room hotel scheduled to open in 2014. IHG opened its own hotelier school in Moscow.

Holiday Inn to open at Media City UK. The building will be finished soon and fit out will start early next year. The hotel is in new area in Salford Quays close to Manchester which aims to become a new broadcasting centre in the UK. The BBC and Salford University are the main tenants of the development.

It's open, I'm there now, report to follow. Described as "Manchester-MediaCityUK", though it's really in Salford...

I think technically it will be the second CP resort as Heythrop Park has just opened. Excellent to have more UK leisure options, even if it looks like it needs a bit of work before rebranding.

And this one is Staybridge Suites - first in Russia (even in Eastern Europe

The hotel is available for booking on priorityclub.com from 23 Dec 2010.

No more info yet but looks like it's just an attachment to existent Holiday Inn.

Well I have a plan to book it right after opening to check and report all details. ;)

I'm not sure what they expected to gain. It was already head and shoulders above all other hotels in Stockholm, at least in terms of reputation. I remember a colleague once insisting that he had to stay there, despite it being outside our travel policy at the time, because all of the movers and shakers stayed there and he always met contacts he knew in the bar and restaurant. The top end suites are also well above almost anything else in the IC system, as is the restaurant - does any other IC hold a Michelin star?

It is fundamentally the same as Claridges in London joining IC and expecting to see a massive jump in revenues on the back of it ... whilst instead they simply find they are giving out all their suites to RA's and annoying regular guests by cluttering the hotel with PC literature :D.

Tobu Narita is a different matter. This is the sort of odd mid-range hotel that you really wouldn't bother with if it wasn't because you would earn / burn points or because a familiar Western brand name gave you the confidence to book.

I guess they hoped to get a grip on the business travel clientel beyond what they already have (which is probably not the broad mass of corporate travel). Reasons for failure are probably the lack of brand awareness in Scandinavia (there are no ICs around - but I could see a co-branding in London of the Claridges work out) and the fact that even with corporate rates, the Grand Hotel is still too expensive.

In regards to Michelin Stars, there are
IC Berlin
IC Berchtesgaden
IC Amsterdam
IC Hong Kong
IC Hong Kong GS
IC Marceau (new in 2011 afaik)
IC Cannes (?)
and I guess plenty others.

It is clear that Le Grand Hôtel Stockholm has nothing to do with IC Bucharest, Frankfurt, Prague (even after renovation), etc. (and most IC hotels which are mostly solid business hotels with exception like Amstel, Willard, Carlton, Hongkong, etc.).

Le Grand would definitely live better under a luxury brand like Raffles, Dorchester, Orient Express, Kempinski, Relais & Châteaux or even Fairmont, Waldorf=Astoria or Luxury Collection (as beautiful InterContinental Hôtel des Indes in the Hague did sometimes ago)

That hotel is now calling itself the "Downtown Inn" now.

My understanding is that this is the second former HI in Durango; the hotel calling itself the "Vegabond Inn" was a HI back in 1950s or 1960s.

Wow, wasn't the Lido the first western hotel since Beijing became Beijing? I wonder where UA will put their stranded customers now? I had a memorable stay at the Lido when UA #888 was cancelled and they bussed all the 1st and business class passengers there. The Lido is across the street from several brothels and the bar is filled with Mongolian hookers at night. It was quite an experience for all the upscale American families. :)

I even wrote a trip report about it at http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/trip-reports/435372-chinese-comic-opera-ua-888-pek.html

Yup, it's a really old hotel. Has gotten pretty tired over the years and I'm betting the owners didn't really want to invest to bring it up to the new brand standards so they left.

And if you can find me a hotel bar in China without women of the night, then I'll gladly spot you a Tsingtao next time you're in Beijing ;)

Was looking for IHG-Hotels in Strasbourg (France) region and found a new one - accepting reservations from August 15th 2011: Holiday Inn Express Strasbourg-Sud Geispoldsheim, 5 Rue de l' Ill.
Sadly, I think, this is not in the tram-part of Strasbourg? Must be in the region west of the Holiday Inn Strasbourg Airport (formerly known as HI Strasbourg South) which is just served by the tram at Illkirch. Checked address - is the same as the current Novotel Strasbourg Sud with the same number of rooms ...

Over the last year, many hotels in France seem to have left the IHG system with hotels dropping the Holiday Inn name rather than invest to rebrand in line with the launch programme. With many properties in France still not re-branded, it may not be long before we see more leaving the system, particularly the dated Garden Court hotels still open.

The following hotels have left the system in the last few months (in case any of these haven't been posted already - apologies if they have) and one of France's largest franchisees has just announced the reflagging of another Holiday Inn.

Holiday Inn Nevers-Magny Cours, now Alliance Hotel
Holiday Inn Paris Charles De Gaulle, reflagged as Best Western (former Express has now been convered to full service Holiday Inn)
Holiday Inn Paris Bibiliotheque de France, reflagged as All Seasons
Holiday Inn Garden Court Fontenay Sous Bois, reflagged as All Seasons
Holiday Inn Paris Val de Bievre, reflagged as Best Western
Holiday Inn Metz, now independent
Holiday Inn Garden Court Annecy, reflagged as Best Western

And a couple of closures in Belgium:
Holiday Inn Garden Court Leuven, reflagged as Mercure
Holiday Inn Brussels City Centre, reflagged as Mercure

Very disappointing to see so few IHG hotels in France nowadays - i hope they will invest in some new properties going forward so there is good representation in major cities across the country.

Well there are still an awful lot of IHG properties in France. And a few new ones joined last year, right?

The only one that dropped off that matters to me was the HI Bibliotheque. It was always the cheapest HI in Paris and convenient to the Metro 14. That said, the rooms were quite small and there is no way it really belonged as an HI. It should have been a Garden Court.

I was doing a search of Anaheim area hotels on the PC site today, and noticed this one (which I had stayed at multiple times) was missing from the list. I did a web search on the name, and found out through TripAdvisor that it has became a Magnuson. Apparently IHG corporate told someone that the hotel left the IHG family on 12/28, though the hotel was answering its phone as Holiday Inn Express for a number of days after that.

This had obviously originally been a conversion from something else to HIX. The rooms never looked anything close to traditional HIX rooms. They had older furnishings, and -- hardest to change -- electrical outlets in really useless spaces (thus hard to plug in a laptop, etc, anywhere near a practical work surface, even in giant two-room suites that I often got upgraded into off of cheap rates!).

Still, the breakfast was up to HIX standards, and the staff I dealt with was always really nice.

The location, though, was quite out of the way for most anything (a long drive from both most business, conference, and leisure destinations). It thus had to keep its prices very low to attract anyone that far out.

I presume this is part of the 700ish HIs/HIXs that were dumped en masse around the turn of the year:

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/intercontinental-hotels-priority-club-inter-continental-ambassador/1159450-wsj-explains-why-lots-his-will-fall-down-choice-hotels-january-1-a.html?highlight=Choice

I wish we could just get a list of those 700ish at once, instead of waiting to discover them one by one.

Meanwhile, Magnuson has even much worse. They took over a complaint-ridden dump in Santa Ana CA (Civic Center Inn) that Best Western got rid of years ago! Perhaps their specialty is picking up any hotel dumped by anyone? :)

Express by Holiday Inn Porte d''Italie has disappeared from the IHG system - it hadn't re-branded and I wouldn't be surprised if it was forced to leave as it was pretty run-down and in an awful location on the peripherique.

Also, Holiday Inn Milan (Lorenteggio) has closed recently and has been re-flagged as an Idea Hotel (many of the Holiday Inns in Italy seem to have gone to Idea, presumably the ones that wouldn't invest).

Strangely, the Holiday Inn Rome Pisana which only opened last year has gone independent and is now the Pisana Palace Hotel - seems odd after such a short space of time. It looked like a good property.

I question the accuracy of richardcap's information, for example both
HI CDG and HIX Place d'Italie are still in the IHG booking system

and there is already a Best Western at CDG, at 1 Allee du Verger the HI is at # 4 Allee du Verger, would they have 2 BW next to eachother?
