I'm wondering if anyone knows about seat selection on the Cathay airpass.
The rules say they're M fares, and that advance seat reservations are not permitted. I can't believe that means we can't do seat selection when we book? I'm over six feet, my boyfriend is 6'9". We really need bulkhead seats on the 777. My Oneworld status is ruby. Any idea is we should be able to lock in the seats? Or, if this can be upgraded w/miles from AA somehow?

No upgrades on CX with AA miles.

I already answered your seat selection question in the MilesBuzz forum. Looks like you cross-posted.

I guess you're really unhappy you won't be earning AAdvantage miles...

Advance seat selection is not permitted when using the CX Asia Pass issued in the USA or Canada.
Recommendation: Buy yourself a membership in the Marco Polo Club and use the special counter (usually F or J) to check-in. Also get to the airport early.
Good luck.
I have not booked yet, thankfully.
The trip I'm looking at is 22k miles plus. There's got to be a better way. Ideas on how to get the $1100 fare AND the 22k miles (before ff bonus)?
Also, I haven't done the status match yet that I have available through AA, to platinum, that would bring my OW up to saphire.

The H class won't be selectable on CX.com until all deeper discounted fare classes (e.g. M and K) are sold out. So you'll have to call CX - and you will have to pay more.
If you get to Platinum/Sapphire then you be allowed to select seats on CX.

I'm pretty sure even Ruby members can do ASR. It says so on the oneworld website that priority seating (or pre-reserved seating, not sure which wording) is a Ruby privilege. As for the miles, Asia Pass earns 0 miles unless you're an Asiamiles member, in which "M" fare qualifies. There won't be an exception to that rule.

I totally agree with G-man82. While booking class M is not supposed toget ASR, as OW Ruby, OP should be able to.
