I'm hoping that there are some CA FTers here who've backpacked in Henry Coe Park. I did a search but only came up with one hit for coe park.

I was hoping to get some advice or suggestions for a trip out there. Mostly things like must see, must avoids, etc... Based on what I've read on their site, it sounds like I might have better luck trying to get a permit for the Eastern Area so that I'm not confined to campsites and avoid following along with large groups. Anyways, worth a shot to ask. Thanks in advance for the help.

I've never backpacked in Coe but I happened to bicycle up to park headquarters today. I've mountain biked in the park several times but have never hiked.

I noticed they had a book, Trails of Henry Coe State Park, which I found online at http://store.parks.ca.gov/detail.aspx?ID=350&f_cat=52

The volunteers at park headquarters were very helpful. You may want to call headquarters on a weekday and ask some questions.

Everyone raves about the Coe Back Country Weekend. You can see hard to access portions of the park.

Groups planning longer mtb rides typically target lakes and waterfalls for destinations.

It's hard to imagine you would see any large groups. The park is huge and I only saw a couple cars at headquarters today. It's very rare to see anyone in the park if you are more than a mile from an entrance.
