Got this card a year ago and its up for renewal. I had a fee free first year with 25,000 points but the program and any OPEN savings havent really materialized.
Does anyone have any experiences iwth lowered renewal card membership fees or incentives to keep the card ? I think I'd be looking for a waiver of the fee or a significant number of points to stay.

In short, there is no reason to pay a fee for an AMEX card. You can call AMEX and ask them to waive the next year fee (highly unlikely), but I suggest that you just open a new AMEX account (and get some more AMEX MR bonus points in the process. Caution, if this is your only AMEX MR account, either make sure you open another AMEX MR account before you close the first account OR transfer the points before you close the account.
My two cents - Lets hear comments from others.

I recently called to cancel my AMEX Gold Biz card.
I wasn't really fishing for an incentive to keep the card but explained in detail my reasons for ditching the card. During the chat, the best the rep offered was a $30 credit.
fwiw, I signed up for my card 2 years ago and in the 1st year got no fee and somewher in the 25Kish MR points range.
There was an anniversary bonus for the 1st renewal of 10K MR points.
No renewal bonus for this year.

You can try to upgrade to Business Platinum and see if they give you 25,000 MR points or a first year fee waiver.

In re-reading the materials that came with the card I might opt for the $30 credit if I can get it. Also there are the 10,000 first renewal points too. Might give it a shot.
As far as the Platinum card there isnt any sort of written offer for points / fee waiver so I'll ask about that too.
We had started the extended payment option and the account seems to have taken on a life of its own. Instead of a simple statement it became rather more complex than I have time for. This " everyting over $200 business is for the birds. Wreaks havoc when you return something thats less than $200.

You can always cancel your extended payment option. I think you can even do it online. I have read somewhere here that some people also experienced problems with it.
