Anyone done Shabbat in Taipei recently?

I heard they moved to the Shearaton (from the Landis) and was curious what the food and services were like ...

I got stuck there 4-5yrs ago over shabbat, when they were at Landis (which is a fine hotel, if not in the middle of downtown). We were quite short of a minyan. They make an arrangement to serve salads and the usual double-alum foil-wrapped-fish, though I must say I really really didn't feel quite comfortable on the kashrut level myself. I believe rabbi is a retired American rabbi(?), not sure if he is Ortho smicha'd (well he offered to shake my hand!), definitely not Chabad. Allegedly, there is a treif steakhouse that keeps separate set of dishes/utencils where you can order kosher meat, but again I really didn't feel comfortable with this arrangement.

Now when I go there, I always MAKE SURE I can get back to HK before shabbat. There are many flights btwn TPE-HKG, it's only about 1hr flight (the most tricky bit is avoiding traffic jam btwn Taipei and airport), and HK has so many more shabbat options.

I wish Chabad opens a center in Taipei and/or Kaohsiung.

2 things prevent this 1- off the beaten path for Israelis treking around

2- more important not enough Business owners passing thru as most everything is now on the Mainland. In other words they wont making a killing setting up a restaurant and offering Shabbos meals, Thats where they make their Bread & Butter (pun intended)
