American Express Membership Rewards - MR POints transfer from german card to Dollar Card?

I currently have a german platinum card and about 160.000 MR points.

I am now about to order an additional "International Dollar Card" with its own MR account.

Question: Is it possible to transfer points from the german MR account to the dollar MR account and if yes, a what ratio?

I tried to get this information from AX customer service, but until now I only got clueless agents. (and my impression is, that it gets worse from day to day)

If the conversion would be possible, that could be a nice way to get a much better value for the german points, because DL, CO etc are 1:1 from the US $ account instead of 3:2 from the german account.

I can't be sure of the German card, but in my experience this most likely cannot be done. I inquired about this possibility for Finnish cards and the answer I got was a very clear NO. Furthermore, when I moved back from the US to Finland, I could not transfer my MR balance from my US account to my new Finnish card.

Cheers,
T.

Is really nobody here who has more than one AX account?

Nobody ever managed to swap balances between two MR accounts?

... managed to swap balances between two MR accounts?

I transferred from International Dollar Card to USA account, but I do not think this is helpful because both accounts are the same currency. You may wish to wait until the Dollar account is established and ask the IDC Membership Rewards staff to perform the transfer.

You may want to check with AMEX directly for the definitive answer (in which case I would like to know). I suspect that they would do a one-time transfer if you were cancelling your German card and doing a global transfer to a $ card. However, when I talked with IDC London last year about potentially setting up a secondary AMEX Euro card, they told me I would in effect have two separate MR accounts-- one for the International Dollar Card and a separate MR account for the International Euro card. They mentioned that I could not link an IDC $ and an IDC EURO card to the same MR account and could not pool miles. Since I have both a U.S.-based MR account and an IDC MR account, I ultimately decided that I did not make enough EUR charges to justify splitting my MR miles into yet a third fragmented MR Euro account. In addition, the $ card is currently more advantageous for MR accrual because IDC has the same point accrual rate for both $ and Euros -- i.e. 1 mile = $1 or EUR 1 charged. And the IDC MR program appears to have the same redemption values for both currencies-- i.e. 10,000 Delta SkyMiles = $10,000 or EUR 10,000 in spending.
Thus, spending currently the same level on a dollar card will yield more points.

I was trying to find out the same information but the only answer i got was that te transfer is possible, but not whatthe ratio would be. I would hope the ratio would be 1 EUR MR point = 1.58 INT$ MR points, but i am not sure about this.

I called Amex Germany today in relation to the same query. This was after finding out that the German Amex MR partner airlines are all crap like Air Berlin, Iberia, Flying Blue and Miles and More is not included in the list!

I was told in no uncertain terms that there is absolutely no way I can transfer an MR balance from a German Amex to an IDC or American Amex, or any other Amex product in any other country for that matter.

All i can do is consolidate / transfer MR balances between different * German * Amex products I have control over.

Edit: I just found a thread that's a bit older where people transferred between MR from two different countries. Strange. Maybe I should call them again, see if I get a different answer.

As of December 2007 it was possible to transfer points once/year from a UK Amer MR account to a US or IDC Amex MR account.

I cancelled my UK Centurion and switched to a Dollar Cent earlier this year and they converted all the points at the exchange rate on that day - nearly doubled so looking good for some nice Upper Class rewards on Virgin.
There are some changes in the reward amount for certain airlines - BMI points needed are double what they were from my UK card but Virgin is the same.

the program is called global transfer and not many of the Amex germany staff know about it. it is possible, albeit i am not sure if once or ornce a year. transfer to a Dollar card gives you daily exchange rate, and then you can transfer 1-1 into Virgin and other airlines, so not a bad deal at all. BMI is 2-1 though, so about 1.5 after currency transfer...
