JetBlue TrueBlue - BOS/FLL: How can one tell which type of plane is on that route plus other questions?

Greetings,

I tried a search but nothing to my satisfaction came up. Anyhow. I have never flown Jetblue before so I have a question or three. The routing will be RT, BOS/FLL.

1). Which of Jetblue's aircraft is better to fly on, the A320 or the ERJ-190? The flight is 3 hours or so.

2). Regardless of aircraft, is it worth it to pay the extra cash to get a seat with 38" of pitch?

3). Unlike other airline websites, I can not find which aircraft will be flying on this particular route. Other than say flightaware.com, how can I find that info out on Jetblues site if available?

Thanks in advance for the help.

1. There honestly is no real difference. The E-190 is just as comfortable. The seat is actually a bit wider and its only 2x2 seating, so I would go so far as to say I prefer it, but its not anything significantly better.

2. Regardless of aircraft, I think the extra pitch is a rip-off. You get extra pitch but no extra recline. Prior to having to pay for it, I usually checked-in all the time in advance to secure the exit row, and really won't miss it. (I won't be paying for it anytime soon.)

3. Log on to jetblue.com and check your reservation. If you try to change seats/pick seats, you'll see which aircraft: 3x3 seating = A320. 2x2 seating = E190

Welcome to JetBlue. IIRC, JetBlue (B6) runs both aircrafts on that route. It really depends on which flight your on. You could check either flight aware or choose your preffer flights and get to the seat selection page to find out. The A-320's have 3X3 seating and the E-190's are 2X2. However, I must forward you that, especially if you book a couple months out or more, it is subject to change. As far as paying the extra for the 38" of extra leg room, that depends. Every always enjoys more legroom but is it worth the cost? Only you can answer that. On a personal note, I have a harder time justifying the cost (I'm 5'6") than my brother in law who's 6'3". Its all preferrance vs comfort vs cost.

I prefer the E190, hands down. The A320, while comfortable, just seems tighter and cramped.

No one can answer this but yourself. For me, no way. The legroom is quite spacious already; I've never had a problem. If you're a taller person, it may be worth it for you. It's all about your comfort; for me, no, not worth it.

3). Unlike other airline websites, I can not find which aircraft will be flying on this particular route. Other than say flightaware.com, how can I find that info out on Jetblues site if available?

After booking, choose your seat -- 3x3 is an Airbus, 2x2 is an Embraer. If you want to know beforehand, post the flight number and when you're traveling. These days, BOSFLL 449 and 457 are on the A320; 455 is an E190. FLLBOS 450 and 452 are on the A320; 458 is an E190. Again, all subject to change based on any necessary aircraft swaps.

I'm surprised to hear reports that the E190 is less cramped. It is still only 32" pitch compared to 34" on the LOL seats, right? Also, if you are considering buying up to EML there are only exit rows for EML on the E190 (8/100 seats) versus 6 rows (4 normal + 2 exit; 36/150 seats) so they are much mre likely to be available. Of course, no middle seats on the E190 is nice.

I wouldn't pay for EML on either plane, especially not on the A320 with 34" pitch anyways.

The E190 still has about 33" of pitch in the back. Also, EML on the E190 btw is only one row, as there is only one exit row (Row 12). And its 38".

Plus, wherever you sit, the seat width is 18.25" compared to 17.8" on the A320) and the 2x2 configuration makes everything feel more comfortable.

I suspect its the psychological effect of the 2x2 plus the seat width, plus the fact that more than half of the plane (rows 12 to 25) are at 33" or better.
