Hello,

I have a mileage redemption ticket with Cathay, flying ICN-HKG-BKK-HKG-ICN. I'll be traveling with 2 check-in bags.

On return, is it possible to ask the check-in agent in BKK to send my 2 check-in bags only to HKG, and not all the way to ICN? (There is a 2 hour layover in HKG on return) What reason should I give them? (say.... I have to give these 2 bags to my friend in HKG?)

From HKG, I am planning on taking Air China to Beijing 2 hours after BKK-HKG lands. Will this be enough time? I will probably have to go through immigration, pick up luggage, go through customs, re-check in with Air China with 2 bags, go through security&immigration and then board.... unless I ask Cathay to check my bag all the way through to Beijing in BKK, but then they'll definitely know I'm not planning on using HKG-ICN..

Thanks!

im not an expert on redemption tickets. but isnt it true you are allowed 2 stopovers for such trip? have you stopovered in HK on your way to BKK? if not you can simply change ur HKG-ICN leg to some random dates that you might use the ticket later...
otherwise, you can always say sth along the lines of "i want to buy some liquid/alcohol" if they ask you when checking in at BKK. However, i reckon a reason isnt needed.

However, to change the ticket routing from a transit to a stopover would require a reissue - which is a pain.

What a bloody good idea! I might use this myself should I ever come across this situation! ^

hk7ju - You should be able to do what you described at BKK, they are pretty soft there - unlike the CX agents in HK. In fact, you can even insist on getting your second boarding pass in HKG transit.

Simply ask them to tag the bags to HKG only. Tell them you'll off load them to a friend. Whilst luggage has to travel with the passenger, the passenger doesn't have to travel with the luggage, right? :D
