Okay, so I'm Royal Ambassador with IHG, but I've been looking at Conrad Bangkok for my next stay in January.

Question is... I'm looking to book a Corner Executive room. Are they worth the price?
Also, has anyone had any luck with a status match from IHG?
I think I can get Gold status with Amex (something I've not used yet!). If I do get Gold, what will that get me at Conrad? Anything or nothing??

Gold from the Amex is through a 4 stays within 90 days fast track promotion or by spending $20,000 in a calendar year. Stays must be completed after your account is open.

I've never stayed in the corner room at Conrad Bangkok, IIRC, the corner room is slightly bigger but it is odd config so some people do not like it.

If you already plan to book executive room, status probably not mean much as you will have lounge access and free internet come with executive room.

Not sure of the price difference, but there really isn't a true corner room as the hotel curves around. I spent a few weeks last year in one of these rooms and then a few weeks in a non-corner room. The corner room was slightly larger -- nothing dramatic though. Both rooms were very, very nice. This is truly a world class hotel in every way.

Why waste a one time status match, for one stay? That's how this is written. You have plenty enough time to earn Hilton status or book an executive level room.

I just checked-out of the Conrad. The executive club floor rooms no longer include free internet in the room, and it is a whopping, by Thai standards, THB 750 to buy it (about US$22.00).

Big :td: from me.

I have stayed in a corner room. The difference from a standard room is that the corner room has a hallway, a walk in wardrobe, a better workdesk arrangement and a much bigger bathroom (without the glass wall to the room). I haven't stayed in the main hotel for some time (I tend to stay at the Residence these days) but I seem to remember that the corner rooms weren't radically different in price to the standard rooms. Whether it is worth it or not depends upon personal preference. If you need reasonable wardrobe space or you will be working then the corner room is probably worthwhile, otherwise the standard room is perfectly adequate. There is zero difference between the room layouts on the Exec floor compared to those that are not.

I have stayed at this hotel (for my film/tv business) more than any other hotel in the world. I stayed here during the soft open, and well over fifty times since. Many other Bangkok hotels have tried to lure me away, but the Conrad has just been too good to me. They really take good care of repeat guests. I have had the pleasure to experience each and every room type. The corner rooms are very pleasant. I would send an email to the sales manager and explain that you would like to give them your business, away from the IHG product, but would request a special rate for an executive floor corner room. They are always looking to develop new business in this crowded hotel market. This is a very well run property, with excellent facilites. Sadly, I was there three weeks ago and learned that the GM (Greg Meadows), who has been there since day one, is leaving to take the GM post at the Sukhothai. I hope the Conrad does not suffer for this, as he runs an incredibly tight ship.... I actually once saw him fish a discarded gum wrapper out of a planter near the front entry. In any case, please let me know if you have any further questions.

Do you know what the story is on the decision to now charge for in-room internet access on the executive floors?

Really put me off.

No. This charge was not in place during my recent stay. I am wondering if this has to do with the new management, or just an internal decision. Needless to say, this is not something I am very pleased with. The Conrad is already in the top ten for highest rates in Bangkok. I will get an answer from my contact at the hotel and let you know.

IMHO for a RA the IC is better choice than Conrad a Gold/Diamond. My own preferred choice is the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit as a SPG PLT.

Likewise the SGS is a truly superb property and whilst i haven't stayed there anywhere near as much as I have stayed at the Conrad, I have consistently received better treatment. YMMV.

Alright, just got an email back from my contact at the Conrad. Information is as follows regarding the new internet fees:

-"In Room Internet Fee = 750 THB per 24 hours + tax."

-"This fee is waived for Diamond Members."

-"The four Apple Computer stations in the Executive Lounge remains free."

So there we have it...

Well, I am and have been a Diamond for some time, yet I was specifically told at check-in that free in-room internet in the executive floor rooms was no longer a benefit and that I would be charged.

On previous stays, free in-room internet in the executive floor rooms, regardless of status, was a benefit.

I'm a diamond member as well and have two separate stays coming up at the Conrad BKK starting 2nd week of Sept. For both stays I have requested an compl. upg. to Exec Corner Room and will advise if the hotel were able to offer this as well as feedback on the internet charges.

PS - Each of my past stays have been in corner rooms and I have never had to pay for internet access or breakfast on the 2nd floor restaurant. Both have been included as part of my hhonors loyalty and/or being a repeat visitor to the hotel.

Cheers.

On previous stays, free in-room internet in the executive floor rooms, regardless of status, was a benefit.I stayed there last week, and had booked an executive suite. The rate/room description on line when I booked said Internet access, and sure enough, the hotel assured me that I wouldn't be charged (and we weren't).

I stayed in May, and certainly wasn't told about any free internet access, and I was on one of the executive floors.

Note that I wasn't given free Internet access because I was on an executive floor, but because I had booked a room type/rate that specifically included it (an executive suite).

I've done Diamond challenge from IC RA status. HH do not usuaully provide Diamond status via status match (even from SPG plat). I was given three months interim and was required to stay at least 10 times @ HH hotels worldwide.

It's really not worth the effort given the devaluation of HH program, comparative level of Conrad BKK to IC BKK, and elite benefit offered to Diamonds @ Conrad BKK (no suite upgrade).

So there we have it...They are iMacs, complete with signs noting (or warning?) that "These computers are Macintosh-based," but they are running Windows. Same with the staff's computers: all iMacs running Windows.

I noticed this in the Exec Lounge in the WGS as well. The receptionists have iMacs which actually are not placed well as you have to look around them to see each other and talk.

Someone at Apple in Thailand is doing a good job of getting their machines into these places.
