Pack it And Ship it - Marriott Rewards(R) Members Can Now Ship Their Luggage Using Points

Marriott Rewards & The Luggage Club take the hassle out of checking bags

BETHESDA, Md., June 23 /PRNewswire/ -- With the airlines making it harder to check luggage, Marriott Rewards, Marriott® International's (NYSE: MAR - News) award-winning loyalty program, and The Luggage Club have teamed up to allow members to redeem points for gift cards to ship luggage door to door. Marriott Rewards members will no longer have to face long baggage check lines or fight the crowds at the baggage carousel.

The Luggage Club is positioned to meet the needs of this growing segment of travelers that has decided to travel stress-free by shipping their luggage in advance of their trip. Travelers' baggage can be picked up at their home, office or location of choice and delivered to their final travel destination, and returned again at the end of their trip. Plus, The Luggage Club has no limits on size, weight or number of pieces that can be shipped.

"We want to make travel as easy as possible for our members," said Ed French, senior vice president, Marriott Rewards. "This is a service that we think will be extremely valuable to our members who spend many of their days navigating airports."

Additionally, "It is our responsibility as a business in the travel industry to step up to the plate and make travel more hassle-free." Todd Kempinger, CEO of TLC continues, "Our goal is to give our customers the convenience and peace of mind that their luggage will be delivered to their travel destination on time."

Not that good of a deal in my opinion. Per the site:

The Luggage Club
Reward Points View Details & Order Reward
$500 Gift Certificate for The Luggage Club 105,000
$250 Gift Certificate for The Luggage Club 65,000
$100 Gift Certificate for The Luggage Club 35,000
$50 Gift Certificate for The Luggage Club 22,000

It looks pretty expensive if you want your bags quickly, i.e. 600+ dollars if I want to ship one large suitcase from my home to Sierra Vista, AZ overnight (roundtrip).

I think I will pass....

May be cheaper to buy an airline ticket for the luggage.

That sounds awfully high. May be cheaper using FedEx or UPS.

In one of my more stupid moves, I drove off once leaving my suitcase in the driveway. After MR. Sophie got done laughing, he took it to Fed Ex for shipment - GSP to SEA - and it cost $50 for overnight. (and I am not a beleiver in "less is more"!)

Admitttedly, this was a year ago...but still - these rates seem a little steep.

However, I do appreciate when Marriott offers choices - then it is up to the individual as to whether to use them or not.

Appreciate the offer but the prices are crazy. Plus there is never a guarantee with my clothes. Sure money, but that does me no good when in small town Texas.

Just open a Fed-Ex small business account and you can ship luggage overnight for about $43.00.

Still not sure why people don't pack lighter and do laundry, saves money and weight. Just bring a small amount of soap from home and in 2 hours and 10 bucks, clean clothes.

FYI that solution does not apply to business travelers.. and/or anyone with 'dry clean only' clothing.

What are you talking about? Use the hotel for dry cleaning the biz clothes and laundry for the other. Expense the dry cleaning and even the quarters for the washing machine. Even if you don't get reimbursed it's tax deductible.

Not everyone has $100 to throw away each week on hotel dry cleaning (I had my pants down recently at a JW and it was $22 for one pair. Throw in a jacket, some shirts, etc. and you can be close to $100.

I am a minimalist when I travel, but to suggest people just dry clean their business clothes is ludicrous for those who travel weekly.
