Australia, New Zealand & the South Pacific - American Express platinum - 2 for 1 companion fare

Is it worthwhile paying and getting Am Ex platinum credit card in Australia for their 2 for 1 companion business class fare? Or is one better off getting cheap deals from travel agents for biz class seats?

I mean business class international flights. Esp. to Europe and North America. Not sure whether it would be worth $$$ for the annual membership fee for Am Ex , especially given there are a limited number of airlines I could fly with on the companion fare.

The 2 for 1 generally applies only to full fare tickets - you could get 2 fares for less than that with some careful routing & timing.

Besides, I object to paying $900 per year for a charge card on principle.
