Hi everyone
I need to get cheap tickets to Maysville Kentucky from Detroit Michigan, bus or train, air flight is good too. Does anyone know of any good deals. I have never taken a bus or train therefore I am clueless where to even look.
thank you for your assistance in advance
Gabby

Looks to me like if you want to fly, it will have to be from LEX, SDF, or CVG.
Not knowing your dates, this is only generic, but looks like
LEX-DTW = ~$350
CVG-DTW = ~$300
SDF-DTW = ~$217
To my surprise (Amtrak www.amtrak.com ) Maysville-Detroit is about the same price as SDF-DTW. (A little less if you qualify for AAA or student discounts)
So it looks like the cheapest flight is to drive to Louisville. But with the cost of gas these days, that might not be too cheap!
One other option: for a couple of dates in July, Hotwire (www.hotwire.com) pulls up $256 fares LEX (which is your closest airport, I think?) if you're not picky about what time of day you travel. I haven't checked Hotwire from SDF or CVG

The problem is that you didn't provide enough information. When are you traveling? How long are you staying or are you not returning to detroit?
Do you actually need to get to Maysville or just somewhere close?
Bus or Amtrak will get you closest. I would not take a bus if I had any choice at all. Amtrak will likely be a very long trip.
Plane will get you there pretty quick to Lexington or Cincy. Direct in both cases, but you will still have an hour or so in a car with either place.
Car will only take about 5.5 hours going 75 to 275 to the double A. If you don't have one you can rent one pretty cheap.
We can help a little, but with the details, we can help alot.
Happy Travels.

Flights all sound pretty expensive given how short the distance is. Taking Amtrak the whole way would require changing in Chicago. Greyhound Detroit-Cincinnati is $50 each way and takes about 5 hours, so if you could get somebody to pick you up in Cincinnati or rent a car there that is probably the best of option.
Greyhound does not serve Maysville. If private transport Cincinnati-Maysville is not possible, then Amtrak runs Cincinnati-Maysville ($15, 90 minutes), but note that a taxi would be required between the stations in Cincinnati, that Amtrak only runs three times a week on that route, that it stops in Cincinnatti in the middle of the night when it does, that at least on the outbound you'd have a 3.5 hour wait in the Cincinnati Amtrak station (bringing the journey in that direction to 10 hours total, though shorter on the return), and that Greyhound and Amtrak are unlikely to help you out if one or the other runs late and you miss the connection.
There might be some sort of shuttle van service (perhaps based at Cincinnati airport) that could get you to Maysville, worth looking into if renting a car is not viable.

thank you everyone for your help
I only need to have a one way ticket for two people to Maysville from Detroit. Date, it can be anytime next week. We have purchased a car in Maysville and we need to go and pick it up sometime next week. We might stay there overnight but it is not necessary. So yes a one way ticket is enough, for two people. The cheaper the better. If it ends up being expensive then we will take our car and drive to Maysville, then split up and drive two separate cars back.
I did not know which train and/or bus services to look at since never used them. I have googled it and came across couple but from detroit to maysville seems like a big detour. It would first go to detroit-chicago and then chicago-maysville
so thats would be 15 hours. Now its best to drive if its only 5 lol (only makes sense) but then again if train is cheap or bus, I prefer to take either/or.

Periodically, I need to relo cars throughout the midwest.
I would take the bus between Detroit and Cincinnati. I would arrange an Enterprise rental car to meet you on Gilbert Ave, at the Greyhound station. Take the car to Maysville, KY. Drive both vehicles back to Cincinnati. Drop off the vehicle at Enterprise. Drive back to Detroit.
You should be able to do it for $150.

Thank you for your help. I will consider this because driving two cars will work out to the same amount but at least we get to drive one car.
P.s. I just checked and to rent a car its minimum $50, hotwire minimum is like $65 geez, whatever happened to $20/day rental lol
greyhound is cheap to Cincinnati its only $50 per person. I'm wondering if any train service has a cheap deal like greyhound.

Be careful what you ask for. Amtrak service in and out of Cincinnati is nearly always late by as much as three or four hours. The terminal is located in one of the worst neighborhoods and most trains in and out arrive at night.
Another option is Hertz which has a location on Dana Ave. and I believe that they also offer "pick up" and "drop off" service.
Avis has a location on 4th St downtown which is about 1.5 miles from the Greyhound terminal and you can hop a bus there (maybe it is Rt24 but you need to check the schedules which are online.
If you pay more than $40 for a vehicle, it is only because you have not availed yourself of the many discount codes on FlyerTalk or Fatwallet.
By the way Hotwire only rents at the CVG airport. To get there from Greyhound will take two bus rides and a couple of hours. If you are crazy enough to try that, do a very cheap bid on Priceline.

I'm wondering of another service, not sure if its available.
I was thinking of renting a car in Detroit and hopefully be able to drop it off in Cincinnati location (I'm sure for additional fee) but its definitely worth the headaches of greyhound and additional buses. That way we do not have to worry about driving two cars back.
Any idea what car rental render such service?
Thank you Lawrence for your assistance

Virtually all of them will offer a one-way rental. And, most likely, virtually all of them will tack on a sometimes hefty drop-fee for the privilege. But it still may be cheaper than the alternative.
As another poster said, spend some time in the auto rental forums here and play around with some of the discount codes.
Using a code I found in one of those forums, I'm doing a one-way rental SMF-SFO for several days for $30 a day and no drop-fee.
I went thru many forums in here at the flyertalk however, I could not find the car rental discounts offered?
can anyone point me to the right directions?
I went to miles and points forum, community forum and the traveling & dining forum. I am not seeing the discount codes for car rental companies.
Thanks
