Just received the following email. Almost makes we want to start staying at Homewood Suites. :D

If this works as advertised, it will be SO COOL :cool::cool: (Assuming it works as advertised, I would hope to see it expand to all properties!)

----------------

Dear jmd001,
Hilton HHonors® Account: xxxxxxxx

You're one of our most valued guests, and we're proud to introduce you to Suite Selection, a new feature that gives you more choice and control over your travel experience when you stay at Homewood Suites by Hilton® hotels.

Suite Selection is a Web-based tool that allows you to view hotel floor plans and images of available suites, choose the location of your suite and suite number, and check in online—as much as 36 hours before you arrive using your HHonors account number and profile.

You’ll see your suite’s proximity to the lodge, swimming pool, elevator, ice machine, parking, and all amenities, so you’ll have what you need to Make Yourself at Home®, even if you’ll be arriving very late.

Click here (http://homewoodsuites.hilton.com/en/hw/promotions/floorplans/index.jhtml?cid=EM,HN,AdHoc,SuiteSelection) and take a tour of Suite Selection today. You’ll see how easy it is to choose your “suite spot” every time you stay with us.

We look forward to hosting you,

Adam Burke

I've used this a few times in the past. This week, I'm at a Homewood (coincidentally). I logged on the morning of my check in and overrode the default suite I was assigned (#511) in favor of #340. I show up for check-in that night and...well, long story short, here I am in #511.

Yeah I like they way the demo says that using the feature does not mean that you will be placed in that suite and then says that to select a specific suite use echeckin. Whats the point??

Hmmm ... yes, I was perhaps a bit hasty in my OP. If there is no "guarantee" regarding room assignment, not sure I do want it work "as advertised". :D

I've had similar unsuccessful results when attempting to choose my own room at Hilton branded properties via the self check-in function. The front desk never seems to get the message. I've since given up on that, finding the results were better letting them choose :p

I agree. The one place where OLCI helps is when I can see the room that has already been selected for me by the hotel. If I like it, great. If for some reason I'd prefer another location I can call the hotel and nicely ask someone at the front desk whether they have something else available.

I'll be at a Homewoods this weekend so I'll at least try using this new function to get an idea of the layout.

I also got Adam's e-mail. I hope that this is just the start of a project to eventually roll out select-your-own-room to all the Hilton brands and properties. I have wondered for a long time why hotel chains don't have this already, since airlines have let you pick your own seat for years.

Obviously, picking your own room would be of great benefit if a number of your work collegues will also be staying at the hotel. With self-selection, you could insure that your room is near the other rooms -- or insure that it is not!

This would give hotels greater pricing flexibility. They could charge slightly more for rooms located in preferred portions of their building, such as corner rooms, or block them out for selection only by elite status guests, much like airlines now do with the better seats in coach.

Homewood's been doing this for over a year now. So far no signs of any of the other brands getting it.
