I was wondering if anyone has had any luck getting the addtional card fee waived or reduced. I'll most likely be getting an additional card for my partner, and thought I would ask before I paid the $175. Thanks!

American Express is unlikely to negotiate the fee because supplementary Platinum cardholders are entitled to the same benefits as the primary, including airport lounge access and companion airfares. Bear in mind the fee is $175 for "up to three" cards, which means you could also request one for a parent or sibling at no incremental cost. If your partner will not use the Platinum benefits you can request "up to five" Gold cards for a single fee of $45. It's also possible to apply for a fee-free American Express credit card which would be billed separately, but would contribute Membership Rewards points to the same pot.

Do you have Amex Plat? or any other card? is I business or personal?

However as Mia said, more likely the card fee will not be waived.

Thanks for the replies.

TAHKUCT - yes, I have a personal Amex Plat. My partner and I use the airline lounge benefit when we travel together. But she has a couple of business trips coming up, and I would like her to have the same access without me.

I'm going to go ahead and pay the $175, but I figured it couldn't hurt to ask first.. just in case :)

Keep in mind that $175 is for up to 3 additional cards, so you can add 2 more people that you trust and share the total cost with them. Also the fee will be prorated for the first year.

What about for the Centurion card? Is there a limit to maximum cards given when paid for the $1500 annual fee for additional card holders???
