American Express Membership Rewards - Lounge Access in HKG and PEK using AMEX

Hi,

I have an AMEX Plat and will be traveling between Hong Kong and Beijing next week. We are booked, in economy, on a Dragonair flight in the morning. I was looking at the AMEX website and it does not show Hong Kong as an airport that I can use my AMEX to get into a lounge, however, there is a pay lounge, the Plaza Premium Lounge, and it says one of their partners is American Express.

This is the lounge I am talking about:

http://www.plaza-ppl.com/hk_en/index.php (www.plaza-ppl.com/hk_en/index.php)

The website does not mention price, number of guests, or give any details.

Does anyone know if AMEX still has a contract with that lounge? And can I bring a guest (my son) into the lounge with my AMEX?

Is Priority Pass still free to AMEX Plat holders, I couldn't find it on the AMEX website?

And in Beijing does anyone know if there are any lounges we can access on our outbound to Hong Kong using my AMEX?

Thanks,
UAL747fan

P.S. I did do a quick search, but did not answer the questions I had.

Thanks again.

I am also Amex Platinum, but I have never heard that amex plats get free Priority Pass. You might want to bite the bullet and buy a Priority Pass card as they have lounges both in Beijing and HongKong. They charge for guests (USD $27) and for your own access if you're on the USD $99 program, but they do have lounges. AFAIK, the Amex lounges are generally AA, CO, DL and NW only, and none of those airlines has their own facility in HKG or PEK.

When I was looking through old threads, someone was asking about signing up for free Priority Pass with AMEX. This thread was four years old.

Well I dont think we are going to be in the airport that long anyways, and its only for PEK and HKG, so that does not seem worth it to me. I was just hoping that maybe AMEX had a contract lounge in HKG and PEK and that I wouldnt have to pay for access.

A Priority Pass is not a benefit for US-based Platinum members. I believe it is for UK-issued cards but don't hold me to that.

You will not have free access to anything in HKG nor PEK that I am aware of. Reading through the list of affiliated airlines for the Plaza Lounge they include Continental in the list, and CO doesn't use them and hasn't for a little while now, so that list could be out of date.

I was afraid of that. Maybe I could convince them if I print out the list. Or I may end up paying for access.

Thanks for all of your really really quick replies!

That's correct -- UK (and many other non-US) issued Plat cards get free PP (in fact, it is two with the UK Amex, at highest tier).

I'm afraid I can't help with the other question, perhaps a more seasoned forum member knows?

In the US the Citibank Platinum Amex comes with free Priority Pass. The card is also free the first year. :D

The Priority Pass membership which is included is the $99 one, you get 3 visits for yourself free and pay $27 per entry beyond that.

If you have a Diners Club card you get lounge access in both cities. There are also both Priority Pass and Lounge Pass participating lounges in both cities. LP might be cheaper if these are the only 2 pay for entry lounges you intend to use.

See the 'alternative lounge access program' tool (http://rewardsdb.com/lounge1.php#china) on RewardsDB for info.

FYI the US issued Amex Platinum Charge card gives access to CO/NW/DL/AA operated lounges. As others have mentioned, non-US cards come with Priority Pass generally. Also as mentioned some cards issued by other banks in the US offer lounge access via Priority Pass (see http://flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=798669 Post#10 for a list of some of most of these).

Try this link for the priority pass application form for HK. As far as I know, its free for the primary holder.
