My wife is itching to hit some Italian outlets (she mentioned Missoni and Prada, and I think Bulgari might even have an outlet that she wanted to visit) but google hasnt been kind to me in trying to pin down where to go. I'm even open to driving as far north as Siena, as we have friends that live in the area, but I'd rather make a day trip from Rome, renting a car if necessary.

Does anyone have any suggestions where to go to hit the aforesaid outlets (and other similar brands) around/outside of Rome? Wish there was a helpful website with this info, just cant seem to fine one. TIA.

I will dig out the info later with the addresses.

I will say that they were a very big let down. At the Gucci store my partner only managed to find one pair of shoes that were nice!

We visited three separate outlets as were driving around northern Italy to sightsee and they were not out of our way; I wouldn't make a dedicated trip to any of them.

I concur. They didn't have esp. good deals when the dollar was strong, now there are no bargains to be had. In addition, you need a car (either rental or hire a driver, IIRC it is 110EU for a cab from Florence). The rental car will require gas (you think it is expensive in the states - just wait). Transportation costs will certainly eliminate any potential savings.

In all seriousness, your wife should determine a budget of what she would be willing to spend at the outlets then add 150 to 200EU (the likely cost of transportation) and use that to shop around the Via del Corso in Rome. It will prove a far more enjoyable - and fruitful - shopping experience.

Thanks. I dont think logic plays much into the equation. I think she enjoys the hunt more than the kill if you know what I mean. ;)

Yes, I understand entirely - but as an Italian woman, I can tell you, the outlet grounds are barren.

A better option might be some of the factory stores that sell non-brand made in Italy goods. Especially in Tuscany, these are fairly common and often beautiful things can be found for very little $$$ (well, at least compared to Prada et al).

Unless your wife is a label junky... ;)

I 'persuaded' my husband to drive a wee bit out of our way to one of the outlet centres just out of Florence. It was a huge disappointment. I went with the notion in my head that 'outlet' meant discounted bargain. Not true it seems. We even peeled back a few of the 'sale' stickers to see what price they were before and were surprised to find a few items that had a cheaper price underneath! I honestly wouldn't bother. I'm sure better shopping can be had in Rome itself.

There is the http://www.mcarthurglen.it/castelromano/home/home.php?lang=en on the outskirts of Rome and I believe they have a free shuttle bus service from the center of Rome

Shall I suggest something about Florence Outlets? We made an online reservation on www.tuscanyoutlets.com last monday to shop at Gucci, Prada and D&G outlets (8 hours) on friday 14. We where picked up at our hotel in a gorgeous car and a very polite and friendly driver who did everything to make it a very nice trip for us. We will definitely order a new trip the next time we are in Tuscany.
