Cannot find any AA flights on the sched, but Taca appears to be still flying into TGU. Can someone with local knowledge provide some insight? And if flying into SAP from MIA is the best option, what are the alternatives for transitting from SAP to TGU (city). Thanks.

TGU has been closed to use by large aircraft by the president of Honduras for ever. He plans to switch operation to the Joint US/Honduras military base at Palmarola within 60 days. Most local do not believe this will happen. At present only planes with less than 42 passengers are allowed to use TGU. This would include ATR's and Shorts I guess. There are still flights from SAP to TGU in this class of plane on Taca Regional and some other local operaters. There is also luxury bus service from SAP to TGU, but expect 4-5 hours travel time.

Thanks for the info, which is very consistent with what I have been able to come up with via google.

Just to prove that nothing is forever, after meeting with business and industry as well as the Tegu Mayor, the President of Honduras has reversed his decision and the TGU airport may re-open to large aircraft next week. Then it will be up to the airlines to see if they are willing to return.

It is open.
Indeed it is! exhorbitant departure tax though... $34.07 which BTW, needs to be paid in cash (USD). So I had $34.10 and told them to keep the change, but they said that they could not accept coins, that I needed to give them $35 and they would then give me 17 lempiras back!!!
Need to hit the Ctrl+Alt+Del on TGU soon!

No. It is closed again!
This time for a temporary but dramatic reason:
Toncontin Airport - Tegucigalpa Update (http://world-airport-info.blogspot.com/2009/07/toncontin-airport-tegucigalpa-update.html)
Seems like an unstable place in this respect!
