Las Vegas - ACE transit system coming to las
I was browsing on the rtc (regional transportation commissions) home page and they have info about ACE; it seems it will be a "light rail type of system" that will have dedicated lanes and in some areas share lanes with cars. It will link downtown-convention center-sahara (monorail connection)-the strip and the airport. Some of the system will be operational in 2009. There is a clip on YOUTUBE showing a simulated system. If this gets going, it will probably kill off the monorail. Airport service could save the mr, but that could be many many years off...
PS: The ACE vehicle looks very "futuristic."

So if you wanna transfer from the subway to the bus, you ask for an Ace-Deuce?

Interesting. The Deuce works wells, why not add more buses and give them dedicated lanes rather than building an entirely new system?

The Deuce does not directly serve the convention center. [One of the only plusses of the monorail is that it does serve the cc.]
Right now las vegas blvd is so saturated with traffic, i think it would be a nightmare if they removed a lane for busses. I read somewhere that there was thought of taking out some of the center island and make that available for busses (exclusively.)
From the blurb in the rtc home page, part of grand central parkway will be used for the exclusive bus lanes.

My dear daughter couldn't wait to ride the Deuce double decker bus. We also tried the MR. That was so-so. My friend who lives in LS says the MR is losing money big-time. The fares are higher than the Deuce. All day ride pass on the Deuce is $5.00 compared to $9.00 on the MR. I wish the deuce had a weekly pass rate. The MR stations are very clean, but not easy to access. I'll stick with the deuce. The Deuce stops about every quarter mile on the Strip.
Acey-deucy....
MR is just a huge mistake. It's just too far from the stations to the action. At least on the Deuce, you get a good view of the Strip while you wait for the light to change

The Deuce could serve the CC though. Why not shut down the strip to all traffic except the Deuce, cabs, (insert other needed traffic here)? Maybe that's too radical. The point I want to make is that another new system is expensive and unnecessary. Expand the one that works.
