American Express Membership Rewards - Additional non-Cent cards for US Cent holders

I called customer service today just out of curiosity to see how much additional non-black cards would be for cent holders - I was considering getting a secondary card in whatever color (green preferred) just to isolate billing for a project. Here is what they say (USA Cent holders only):

- 5 additional gold cards for $45 ($45 total for all 5)
- 3 additional plat cards for $175 ($175 total for all 3)

The additional cards can be in any name, providing you give a date of birth and social security number with the request, all are additional cards on your account and thus your bill issue. All the cards carry the benefits of the respective level, ie: gold gets standard gold benefits, plat get plat, etc.

She also said that it was popular to get additional cards in variation of your own name, I suppose for billing reasons.

I actually was hoping to get a plain green one for low-profile usage, but alas, only gold and plat are available. $45 for five gold cards is pretty cheap, you could get one for your kids.. and pets.

Yeah, I know that the euro Cent gets a whole shoebox of free cards, but it seems like a reasonable deal here in the states.

Just FYI, the social security number isn't even a requirement. I just got a card for my husband under my Centurion account. When she asked for DOB and SSN, I gave DOB and told her he had no SSN as he was a Danish citizen and she said fine, no problem, without hesitation.

Identical to the cost for Platinum cardholders.

I find it incredible that they charge you for additional cards on the account at all considering the fee you guys pay for the Cent card.

Rip off.

Well... the Euro Centurion (IEC) has an annual fee of €2,800 ($4,350 these days) so the free suppl. cards are not really a gift ;)

Wow, that's high! When I had the IDC Centurion the fee was US $1,000. Of course, there was no airline elite status so the difference between that and the US card at the time was understandable.

The fee for IDC (US$ Centurion) is "only" $2,800 ... where the IEC (Euro Centurion) fee is €2,800 for exactly the same benefits.
Obviously Amex still believes that 1 US$ = 1 Euro

The fee raised from $1,000 to $2,800 (and €1,000 to €2,800) as the International Centurion was "relaunched" last year : Titanium main card instead of plastic, up to 21 supplementary cards (1 plastic additional Centurion for the main cardholder, 1 plastic supplementary Centurion and up to 19 Platinum/Gold/Green supplementary cards).
