Hello all, I am brand new here, just found this site...PRETTY COOL!!
We just moved to Utah and my husbands children live in the Dallas area. We have a place there and my husband is going to be flying into DFW for a week out of every month to go be with his children. I am all of a sudden facing the flight and car rental world without a whole lot of knowledge on the ins and outs.
Just thought I would post here to see if any of you experts have any advice for me with the car rentals.
Would I be smart to stick with one or 2 companies since I will be renting every month? Or shop all of them and try to use the current promotions and coupons?
From what I am reading in here, it looks like you can stack coupons on top of discount codes to get better prices, is this correct?
Im sure I have 1,000 more questions but will save it for now. Any advice and tips would be greatly appreciated. I need to make sure that I get the best deals that I can and it all seems so overwhelming I dont even know where to start.

I start with checking http://www.kayak.com/ but never booked there.
Next, you have to check several rental companies ... and each company with different codes (AWDs, Contract IDs) and maybe voucher codes. You find
some here at FlyerTalk.
You also try to get Hertz #1 Gold, Avis Preferred, National Emerald and so on. I got them all free.
If, you return the car to the pick-up-station, you get super low prices at www.priceline.com.

If that is too time consuming you can try http://www.carrentalsavers.com.
They will book for you directly with the car rental companies using publicly available discount codes. There is no cost for booking and you can cancel or modify at any time (unlike Priceline).

Thanks ... I bookmarked the link and I'll try it next time I need a rental car.
Added: Regarding Priceline ... true, you can't cancle or modify. However, Priceline was always dirt cheap for me .. paid less than half of other offers.

Thank you guys! So Going to priceline or carrentalsavers is usually cheaper than going to the actual company site and start plugging in all the discount codes I find here in the site?
Can you stack discounts?

Ok, I am a little bugged...My first try was at Alamo. I went through without anything just to see what my rate would be without any discounts, then after putting in various coupon codes, even tried the J3 corp id, NOTHING changes the rate I had with nothing at all????? What the???

I dont know, I must be doing something wrong, after pluggin in countless codes, nothing could absolutely beat the prices at hotwire etc. Every time I put in a code at any site, they never seem to change, always the same. What am I doing wrong??

Another option is to call locations directly and ask to speak with a manager. Tell him/her that you will traveling there for business once a month and will need a (insert car class here). What rate can they offer you considering how good a renter you will be.
I would also register for each of the frequent renter programs as well as the small business rewards programs that the rental agencies offer. Providing your corporate code will earn you a small annual rebate and more legitimacy when talking with the location management.
