Budget Travel - SFO rental minivan for August

Anyone have any budget strategies for snagging a good rate. In looking at all the choices, I have seen Hertz for like 700.00 a week :eek::eek: (with a discount code!!!) and Enterprise for like 400.00 a week. :eek::eek:

I wasn't expecting car rental rates to be more than the tickets!

I have tried Priceline, up to 28.00 a day, :p;) but so far, denied. Strange though.. on Sunday they told me 35.00 a day would have a great chance and today they said 45.00 would have a great chance. :confused:

I could have my sister pick us up (but BIL and child would have to stay home) and then rent a car in San Jose. (SFO was cheapest by alot for tickets). It is about an hour drive from SFO to SJC, so I was hoping to save them the trouble for there and back.

Oh, I plan to try PL again and will do 31.00 this time.

Could try Dollar. I took their mystery car rate ($14 at SEA) a couple of weeks ago. Got saddled with a minivan.

I wound up booking through Priceline (their regular service, not bidding) and I used a coupon and it came to like 400.00 with taxes. I figured this way I have a reservation I can cancel, and then I'll look for last minute deals or do another round of bidding.
