Starwood Preferred Guest - Question regarding upgrade to SPG Gold via SPG AMEX

This may have been answered before and I tried to search for it but couldn't find it. I was wondering how long does it take for the status upgrade to gold to show after hitting the 30K in spending. I would appreciate any info or links that may provide the answers.

Just call them as soon as you reach the threshold and they'll do it instantly.

I was downgraded back to regular this year after spending *way* over 30k in 2007, and when I called they bumped me back up right away. So I'm not sure how the automated system works but in my case it didn't work at all.

So in other words, if you've done the spend, call and they can verify it and change your status on the spot.

I believe the way it *should* work is that Amex transmits the threshold spend data to Amex with the points for the billing period win which you hit it. It should post very quickly after that statement closes. In theory.

I am Gold with stays and I really like when I hit the spend limit, I get a whole new "Welcome to Gold" package. I guess the Amex -v- actual stay people probably don't sit together. :)

Thanks for the answers. I wanted to report back that I just checked my SPG account and it shows that I am "Gold". So the status has been updated finally. Took about a week or so.
