Starwood Preferred Guest - No points when using platinum guarantee for paid stay?

I am just on the phone with a platinum line representative...she is using the plat guarantee to get me a room in Vienna during the Euro 2008 - however, she said that if they use the platinum guarantee to get me a room, I would not earn any points on the stay. I did a search, but could not find out whether this is correct or not. Can anyone educate me?
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
This might be strange. Let me confirm with the property again. May I know more details of your stay? Please send me a PM with the name of the hotel and your confirmation number if possible.
Thank you and have a nice day!

Are we talking about a 72-hour-before-arrival Platinum forced availability here? Isn't that done at the RACK rate? The last time I checked, the RACK rate was definitely eligible, so yes, since Thyetus is out of the office, please send me this confirmation number so at least someone can be educated...either me or the Platinum Concierge in question. LOL. :)

When I had to do this a while back I was told I wouldn't get a platinum upgrade, and I believe this was generally confirmed in a discussion on FT. Of course, with a sold-out situation, I'm not sure I'd hold out much hope of an upgrade anyway, so no big loss. As it turned out I ended up changing my plans.
I mention that just to say I wonder if the booking agent is confusing "no points" with "no upgrade."
OP, if you do book the room, make sure to check back frequently. If someone cancels a reservation, you may be able to re-book your room at a lower-than-rack rate.
