Practical Travel Safety Issues - Securi-Wii?

Dumb question:

I'm going out of DEN tonight, and i'm not typically a kettle, but today i might be.

I ran into a target store that actually had the Wii in stock - so being excited to see it, i purchased it at - omg - retail price instead of the eBay markup.

Sadly, i have no idea what to do about it with security since i have a laptop and fully stuffed carry on already. I surely wont check it.

So - it needs to be out to go through security, no? Like, i need to unpack it from the original box.. right? I really don't know. Can i just leave it in the box and then try to cram it into my carry on?

All else fails i can grab a cheap bag for it, and check my clothes and such that are in my carry on. I was not planning on checking anything as of an hour ago - so that means some plan/schedule shuffling to get there earlier.

Any suggestions? Advice? Can it stay in the box..? Seriously considering fedex to just not have to worry about theft.

It will need to go through the x-ray on its own. They shouldn't make you unpack it (hopefully) but they can ask you to. If they do, open the box, unpack it, have it scanned and put it back in the box and then the box back into whatever you're carrying it on in. Shouldn't be too big a deal.

And I'd try to get a large shopping bag that can hold it and your laptop bag as your "personal item" so you aren't forced to check anything.
