MilesBuzz! - Using AA/DL/NW/UA miles for hotel stays

Does anyone know if I can either use miles from one of these programs to book a hotel stay, or transfer miles into a hotel program, ie Starwood?

I know I can use AA miles too book a hotel room thru AA, but I was wondering if I could also transfer AA miles out to another hotel program.

AA is one of the few that still can be shifted over to Hilton- 5000 AA= 10,000 HH

Why was there a policy change with the airlines wrt transferring miles to hotel points? I had several miles saved with Delta and US Airways, b/c I wasn't decided on which hotel to spend them and now I can't transfer ANY of them!

What happened?

I don't recall US Airways miles ever being transferrable to hotel programs. At least not in the past 5 years. (Otherwise, I would've moved some of them!)

Don't know about DL, but I don't recall seeing them discussed as a big hotel conversion portal.

The ability to transfer DL miles HHonors points disappeared a couple of months ago. As pinniped noted, US has not ever (that I can remember) allowed the transfer of miles to hotel points.

Now that UA transfers and LatinPass transfers to Hilton are gone I am looking at moving much more of my travel to AA and Continental.

AA miles are doubly valuable because of the ability to transfer to Hilton or to Diners Club which can then be converted to Starwood, Hilton, and other hotel programs. Too bad there is a 50,000 mile annual transfer limit fromm AA to DC.

Hi, I'm just getting the "hang of this". I havent' really had the miles before to really make important contributions so that I'm starting to accumulate I would love to get some feedback..

Does this mean that if I have 10,000 AA miles I can transfer them to Hilton Honours and I will get 20,000 HH points which I reserve for a couple nights stay (depending on hotel)? How long does this transaction take?

Yes, you can transfer 10K AA miles to 20K HHonor points. All you have to do is call AA (phone: 1 800 421 0600 - it can not be done on their website, as far as I know) and they will send you a certificate by regular mail that you have to send to HHonors (address is printed on the certificate).
AA will tell you that it can take up to three weeks before you receive the certificate, however it usually arrives within a week. HHonors usually also only needs a couple of days to post the points. All it all my average is about two weeks per AA--&gt;HH transfer.

does anyone know if the same applies to Marriott Rewards?

Are asking the award levels on Marriott awards? If so, they start at about 7,500 points for the first night to 40,000 for the first night. The "per night" rate goes down the more nights you stay. It all depends on the category of hotel and if there are any specials.

Marriott Rewards does not offer a similar "reward exchange" program where you can convert airline miles directly into Marriott points.

To the best of my knowledge, you can only transfer Marriott points INTO airline miles, not the reverse. *

* except, of course, through tortuous roundabout steps like converting UA or AA miles into Diners Club points first.
