I am an Avis First member and last night had a minor accident with my personal vehicle (as it happens though, I do have an Avis car out at the moment). Just a minor fender-bender, where my fender got the worst of it and will need to be replaced. Accident has been reported to insurance as there was another vehicle involved (in other words, couldn't just ignore it and replace the bumper myself.)

What does this mean for my Avis profile and renting cars? I recall when initially filling out (several years ago) some kind of application that there was a question about, "Have you had any accidents..."

Do I now need to update my profile? Will I now be considered a "higher risk" driver? Will I get hit with additional charges/fees? At what point do they cut you off from renting?

This is my first accident in 20+ years (and no moving violations) and only my 2nd fender-bender in 30+ years of driving. However, sometimes things like this happen in bunches. (For example, similarly, there is a particular stretch of highway that I had not driven on in ~25 years. On Tue and Wed of this week I drove that stretch of highway, and now today, again I will be driving that same stretch of highway. I've generally been accident-free, but who knows, could have another one any day now...although I hope not.)

Thanks for any insight related to the above questions...

Nah, Avis doesn't care how many accidents you have in your personal vehicle, as long as the state doesn't take away your driver's license.

And if you have accidents in Avis vehicles, as long as they're reimbursed for the damages (through you, your credit card, your insurance, Avis' insurance that you paid for, etc) they don't care if you have numerous accidents in their cars either. As long as they get their $$, they will let you keep renting from them forever.

Agreed.

Accidents happen all the time with rental cars. Its only a problem if Avis has a claim against you for unpaid damages.

Since your accident is with your personal car, what do you have to worry about ? Avis has No access to your personal driving records.
