Australia, New Zealand & the South Pacific - Where in Queesntown is this picture?View Full Version : Where in Queesntown is this picture? UA Fan May 23, 08, 2:53 pm http://www.queenstown-nz.co.nz/information/searchresults/?category=canyon-swings&listingtype=PROD Kiwi Flyer May 23, 08, 3:40 pm Looks like the top of the gondola. splatnz May 23, 08, 4:19 pm Yep the swing is at the top of the Skyline Gondola - it's on a hill just outside the Queenstown CBD (you can't miss it). There's a very average restaurant at the top, the luge, some walking tracks and the highlight IMHO a giant bungy type swing :D It was on Amazing Race Asia and is great. I think they call it the sky swing. It's a bit like bungy jumping but you're sitting in a swing instead of tied at the ankles gladstoneyoung May 24, 08, 4:51 am Don't be too harsh on the restaurant at the top of the gondola. We had excellent service and selection in January. The staff readily catered for special dietary needs. Make sure you use a discount voucher e.g. from the car hire company or the tourist brochures. Don't hesitate to have a go on the luge. It is far more fun than you would expect-even for "older" people. I concur, the picture is from the top of the gondola. Kiwi Flyer May 24, 08, 4:37 pm It is the same the world over. Restaurants in towers and other extra special views tend to be average in quality and service, because they can get away with it. serfty May 27, 08, 12:37 am http://www.queenstown-nz.co.nz/information/searchresults/?category=canyon-swings&listingtype=PRODAs posted the image appear to have been taken from the tourist centre overlooking the town. Some of the township buildings can be seen on the left of the image and the green peninsula near the centre of the image is mainly composed of a Golf Course. Interestingly, you cannot see the centre of the township. The main part of town is cropped in the image and is somewhat below the golf course. Here's some more images in and around Queenstown from the ZQN DO last year: ZQN Do - Slideshow (http://gallery.flyertalk.com/gallery/slideshow.php?set_albumName=album28) Quokka May 27, 08, 1:35 am The photo in question does appear to be taken from the vicinity of the Skyline lodge / viewing deck. Here's a link to a bunch of (labelled) webcams views of Queenstown from Skyline: http://www.skyline.co.nz/queenstown/webcams/ If you want another great place for views, photos and something of a sense of accomplishment, hike from the Skyline lodge to the summit of Ben Lomond, one of the highest peaks in the nearby area. [Wait for summer though]. Zarf4 Jun 2, 08, 7:37 pm Like everyone else I'm pretty sure it's from the top of Mount Bob which is accessible by gondola. You also get impressive views of parasailers gliding below you. |
