I want to connect a standalone DVD player to a computer LCD. The LCD has DVI inputs but I have not been able to find a DVD player with DVI outout.
I could buy one of these HDMI-DVI cables (http://www.monoprice.com/products/search.asp?spcDB=10231&spcWord=Video+Cable+%2D+%3Cb%3EHDMI%2FDVI%3C%2Fb%3 E&keyword=dvi) but I read that video resolutions make the picture look very bad.
Has anyone done kind of hookup successfully?

You have several options;
1) HDMI-DVI cable like you mentioned, I have no idea why the resolution would go down, HDMI is essentually the same as DVI but with audio and some DRM in it.
2) A component to VGA cable (assuming the player has component).
Number 2 might be the easiest, and I know from experience that it works.

Scott, Thank you but if I already have my computer connected to the VGA input. As for option 1 I have seen posts on by googling this topic mentioning video problems like blank screens, quality problems etc. Not sure why those posters had these issues.
Considering all the LCD TV's out there with DVI inputs I am kind of baffled at why there are no devices with DVI output!
