hi all i was wondering if they charge the 2% tax (thing they charge for airline transfers) on amtrak transfers as well?

No, they don't (at least as of March 2008, when I transferred points from Club Rewards to Amtrak Guest Rewards).

It was initiated on a Wednesday and showed up in AGR the following Tuesday.

The fee is actually $0.95 or 95 points per 1,000 points transferred to an airline program. That's 0.95%, not 2.00%.

Nope, 95 points is 9.50% of 1000, which is close to the 7% (or is it 7.5%?) US Federal Excise Tax on domestic airfares & sales of FF miles to CC banks, etc.
Amtrak is exempt because it is not an airline :) .

Thank you. I've never redeemed points to pay the fee, but even using money I see that I've miscalculated. Alas, it won't be the last time :( .
